Prince William Kate Middleton Interview

Just hours after their announcement swept the world, newly-engaged Prince William and Kate Middleton sat down with ITV News' Tom Bradby for their first television interview as a couple.

Some tidbits from the interview (scroll down to watch):

William on giving his mother's old ring to Kate:
"It was my way of making sure my mother didn't miss out on today and the excitement, and the fact that we're going to spend the rest of our lives together."

Kate on Diana:
"Obviously, I'd have loved to have met her. She's an inspirational woman to look up to obviously to this day [...] very inspirational."

William on Kate succeeding Princess Diana:
"No one is trying to fill my mother's shoes, what she did was fantastic. It's about making your own future and your own destiny and Kate will do a very good job of that."

William on timing of the engagement:
"[I'd been planning] for a while but as any guy out there will know it takes a certain amount of motivation to get yourself going."

William to Kate:
"We've talked about today for a while haven't we...so Kate wasn't in the dark over it all, we've been planning it, you know, for at least a year if not longer. It was just the right time."

The interviewer Bradby noted on Twitter, "There is a kind of fascination in hearing [Kate] speak...I guess we have seen so many pictures of her over the years and yet never heard her voice."

He also said William was "on very good form, cracking a lot of jokes before, during and after the interview."

William thought that there was a chance that her father would say no. Hahahahahhahahahhahahahahahahhahahah.

Her mother sent her to the same school as Prince William in the hopes that her daughter would snag him. Mission accomplished.

I can't imagine anything worse than proposing, being accepted, then having to call in the paparazzi to make it public.

This brings tears to my eyes because they've been showing a lot of Diana, especially many photos of her with William. Bittersweet she isn't alive to see her firstborn get married. She loved her boys. They always say that heart surgeon was the love of her life and because she wasn't Muslim and also he was extremely private, that he broke it off. If they had stayed together, she never would have been with Dodi and that fateful night wouldn't have happened.

He was gorgeous when he was young, but Harry is the one that has turned into a hunk.

Times like these cant help but wonder for a sec, with their noses pressed up against the window looking in at all the hoopla, if it can be a brutal blow to the ego if you are one of the also ran princes, like a Prince Andrew or Harry.

Harry is a wild child in a way. I bet he is relieved it will never be his burden to bear, King of England.

I do believe that the marriage study people would think this is going to persist...they are so good to each other....and keep touching base with each other....

You can see that she clearly likes to touch him and she is more in love with him than the camera....Best of luck to the both of them....Quite a nice dress, perfect for the occasion and perfect for her figure.....I am delighted for them!

Kate seemed extremely nervous. William is much more poised. This is understandable. He has been a public figure all his life. But I think she will learn and do well. Diana was also nervous and shy and look what she accomplished!

I was just about to write that! She'll get the hang of it, though. I like how he jumped in to help her out, that's so sweet.

And she's had 8 years of courtship to get used to some of it.

Diana's ring????? Why on Earth would someone want to wear that? What's next, wearing her bridal lingerie on the wedding night? This is just downright creepy.
01:24 PM on 11/17/2010
Family heirloom jewelry is extremely common. The ring my father proposed to my mother with was his grandmothers engagement ring. I think it was very moving that William wanted to be able to involve his mother's memory in this somehow.

My son-in-law gave my daughter a ring that had been in his family for generations and it means so much to her because of that. I'm sure William gave her Diana's ring as a symbol of love not only from himself but to signify acceptance and support from his family as well. It doesn't mean the same thing to him or to her, obviously, as it does to the public.

I know I don't know them but everytime I watched them being interviewed I had this big goofy grin on my face. They make a lovely couple and seem to be well-suited; I wish them happiness..

Yet, I found it touching and heart-warming as well. I loved the way William would gently add something when Kate seemed to be a little unsure. He seems so gentle and protective of her.
