Apple iPad vs. BlackBerry PlayBook: See Which Is Faster (VIDEO)

Speed Test Playbook Vs Ipad

*Scroll down for video.*

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) just made a compelling case for the soon-to-be-released PlayBook tablet.

At the risk of overloading on the phrase "iPad killer," consider this speed test, in which RIM pits the Blackberry PlayBook against the Apple iPad.

In the video below, a RIM employee claims to have cleared the cache and cookies on both devices and to have connected both tablets to the same wireless network. He tests their rendering speeds by simultaneously loading the same site on both units.

The results are striking.

The PlayBook appears to render Web pages faster than the iPad--much faster. In addition, pages featuring Flash content looks more attractive on the PlayBook, thanks to the device's native Flash support.

Business Insider was so impressed with the PlayBook's results that it suggested RIM turn the video into an advertisement.

Watch the speed test for yourself and tell us what you think about RIM's potential "iPad Killer." Then, view our guide to the Blackberry Tablet's 10 essential features.

If BB let's me tether a playbook to my stupid storm then I'm sold. BBM, 3G, Flash videos, and multi-tasking? sounds delicious to me. Plus let's not forget that BB isn't vertical integrated like Apple. I like being able to have choice in what i use than being stuck with apple and having to get everything in apple. I'm tired of this whole i-everything brand.

Such a pity that the iPad has been defeated by a device that hasn't even been released. When is Apple gonna get the message that Flash is the greatest thing since the internet itself?

Defeated how? Remember you just watched a RIM commercial about vaporware being compared to a real working product on the market right now.

Does it support Silverlight? Nobody Html anymore. It's Silverlight and Flash now!

HTML 5 is replacing regular HTML. Not so much with Silverlight.

HTML5 is still a long ways away... its not coming anytime soon, then you need people to program and develop stuff for it... or switch over from using flash to use that.

Actually, you are out of date. Flash already had its glory years and has been fading for at least a couple of years now.

Silverlight is a joke.

I guess the iPad comes with an undocumented feature; if you hold it up in front of you, it apparently shields you from reality

Remember books? Let's talk about those for a second. How will the paperback 7" RIM compare to the hardcover 9" Apple? Authenticity went to Kindle 1.0 for a real genuine literary experience, but that's about it. This left people waiting for the Apple to drop. Sparking many to consume, and many seeing no Flash. With 7 months between RimJobs, the PlayBook, technologically speaking, has to out perform. Why else match a price point to something about to rot. Owning an iPad, makes me want to buy a PlayBook. The PlayBook makes me wanna own a iPad 2 (Even Padder?). Attacking what either doesn't have, is a poor approach to what we the consumer imagine to be seen as NEW. Faster? Expected. Camera? Sure. Flash vs. HTML5? Sell me on either! Battery life R&D should really be pushed way further back into our "uhh what's my battery % @?" subconscious. What really imaginative WOW features can we demand with our consumerism to get past such remedial wants?

Yeah, but not supporting Flash was a catastrophically, galactically stupid move on Apple's part.

I hear this all the time, but I rarely run into something missing from webpages, and I use my iPad all the time for browsing. Maybe I should watch more porn.
Having said that, I get all of these machines for free because I do Web-based research about how kids learn from devices, and I already have a few of the other tablets. Each one has something slightly new to offer, and each is pretty cool. The samsung has a better chance than this RIM machince, IMHO.

Wow.
A 7 month old product performs slower than an unreleased product using a faster CPU. Get outta here.

Did you even watch the video? its not all about CPU speed, its about what is being used to make things go faster, like proper flash and java

maybe cause you dont have anything important to say... just a bunch of cr@p that has no meaning behind what this is about.
Im not an Apple fanboy like a lot of people, they make good products, but not great products.. they are too locked down and you cant do what you want with them like you can with other products, only cause Steve Jobs wont allow you to tarnish his Apple image.
05:02 PM on 11/18/2010
I still use a dual 450 MGHZ (Megs not Gigs) G4 desktop running CS3 and suitcase. I replaced the power supply once (Due to a power dip in my apt building) and that's it. Still does everything graphic design I need it to.
Also, Just upgraded my iPhone from 1 to 4 after 3 years. I would say that Apple products make great investments.

You can mod all you want and ill have something worry free for years to come.

I've looked at the prices charged for App's and many are like 2-5 dollars and then there are the ones like $30 so what if there is 200,000plus apps out there if the average price including "free"apps is even just one Dollar then to use "The APP NET" you need to spend more than $200,000plus and Growing,P.S. how long does it take to go through all those Apps to find the one you want?

I don't see how a 7-inch (diagonal) screen competes with a 10-inch truly competes at all. (I'm still waiting for the 12-inc iPad, which roughly approximates the size of a standard paper tablet.)

Its about portability... something SMALL and PORTABLE, if im going to have a 12 inch screen that im going to lug around, ill get a real computer, not some half arsed tablet
04:12 PM on 11/18/2010
Except that RIM's pad isn't available yet, and won't be available until next year - when the next generation iPad will also be available. This test is like comparing oranges to tangerines.
03:47 PM on 11/18/2010
That's a pretty deceptive picture on the HuffPo front page -- it implies that the iPad only scored 41 on the Acid3 test when in fact both devices scored 100.

I have owned apple products and they are expensive compared to other things... you can drop 3K on a macbook pro and its not any faster than the one you can get from Asus for half the cost
04:03 PM on 11/18/2010
Quite the contrary .. I still use my 12 year old G4 dual 450 MHZ (Thats megs not gigs) for all my graphic design using Adobe CS 3. So I would say people are idiots for not making great investments. Also, I had my iPhone 1 gen for 3.5 years before I upgraded to the 4.. how long before you have to upgrade?

P.S. Thanks mods!

I have one of these machines, and I loved it, but then the power supply failed, and the replacement failed a few months later. I bought a Mini to replace this machine, because I did not want to keep replacing power supplies. Did you have this problem? If so, where do you get a good one that won't die? I would like to get it running again, but it has to keep running. Compared to the mini, my G4 has massive disk capacity (upgraded to 1TB) and I can't put the PCI cards in the Mini. That means extra Firewire and USB ports, direct video input and a very smart sound card. I do a lot of video and music work, and you need these things for that.

FLASH, FLASH FLASH! To me anyway it's all about flash. How many HuffPo articles can't you watch because they are in flash mode. Funny, the Playbook article was a you tube video which apple does support. Would like to know more about Playbooks dimensions and weight. My iPad is my global mini computer. An excellent surfing tool....except when it comes to viewing flash content. 20 oz. of big screen viewing capability makes my Ipad to way to go. Still waiting for the flash workarounds......any news out there?
Playbook looks to be to small and squinty. It reminds me of a big smartphone instead of a small computer. Also, like other posters have said.....apps.

Apple already has apps like Skyfire that solve the Flash problem without having to put up with flash ads. The apps make it a win for Apple.
