LOS ANGELES — Bill Nye, host of the Emmy-winning 1990s television show "Bill Nye the Science Guy," collapsed during a California speech, then got up and continued his presentation.

The Los Angeles Times says the 54-year-old Nye apparently fainted on stage Tuesday evening in front of hundreds of people gathered at the University of Southern California.

Paramedics and campus safety officers responded, but it's unclear if Nye was treated.

USC senior Tristan Camacho says Nye collapsed in mid-sentence at the podium. About 10 seconds later, she says he was conscious and asked the audience how long he was out.

Nye told the audience a similar thing happened to him earlier in the day.

Nye assistant Christine Sposari didn't immediately respond to an e-mail request for information sent early Wednesday.

It's a simple rule: Lose consciousness - go to the hospital. I hope he followed it.

Man, glad he's ok at the moment. He better get that checked out. I used to LOVE his show growing up.

I'm not surprised he fainted when he found himself in such an amazing place.

That is totally weird! If it happened to him earlier in the day, I think he should cancel his speaking schedule and get to a hospital for testing. He doesn't look well in this photo and he's only a year older than I am.

I am glad he is okay. I am also glad he is only out for a short time; those Trojans might try something nefarious if he was out longer.

He's still a young fellow at 54. He does appear a little too slender.
Hang Bill!

No doubt. Thin and fainting aren't good symptoms of anything.

I'm guessing that rather than to use their own judgement the students were checking with
"Snopes" to see if he'd really passed out.

I hope he's ok. Bill Nye is awesome. He actually made science interesting when I was a kid
