Sharron Angle: 'Sometimes Dictators Have Good Ideas'

Sharron Angle Dictator Ideas

Nevada Republican Sharron Angle -- who fell short in her quest to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid earlier this month -- found herself back in the spotlight on Wednesday after questionable comments she reportedly made towards the end of her campaign came to light.

"Sometimes dictators have good ideas," explained the Tea Party darling at a private campaign event, according to Nevada political journalist Jon Ralston. At the Las Vas Sun, he writes, "Her staff fretted the line would get out. It did not. Until now."

Angle, who developed a reputation for sparking controversy over the course of her campaign, reportedly made the remarks in arguing that the country's Social Security system should be privatized. She cited right-wing dictator Augusto Pinochet and a system he implemented in Chile in 1981 to make her point.

Angle invoked the same reference over the summer. Ralston reports, "[She] had not used it since her staff shut her down. But that day, with no media there, saying her staff had warned her not to use it, she raised the Chile example again."

The Nevada Republican's position on Social Security repeatedly proved to be a stumbling block throughout her campaign. While Angle has taken a hiatus from the political realm since her defeat to Reid, she recently signaled her intention to make a roaring comeback. The Las Vegas Review Journal reports:

Angle, making a spontaneous visit to the Las Vegas Republican TownHall group, vowed to continue her crusade to shake up a national political scene she says has drifted too far from values the Founding Fathers held dear, even though she lost by 5 percentage points a race pundits once thought would be the biggest prize in a Republican wave.

"Our freedom is at stake. We knew that two years ago when we started running for the U.S. Senate, when you started helping me, you knew we couldn't stop," Angle told an audience of a few dozen Republicans in a banquet room at Charlie's Lakeside restaurant. "And we can't stop now."

One day following Angle's loss in Nevada's midterm election, HuffPost's Nick Wing reported on the possibility that the conservative firecracker could inject herself into the 2012 political mix. Whether a congressional or gubernatorial campaign, or a bid to unseat GOP incumbent Sen. John Ensign -- who despite being embroiled in immense controversy stemming from a 2009 sex scandal recently signaled he intends to seek another term -- it seems that for Angle, all options remain on the table.

The problem isnt Sharron Angle etc etc it is the fact that blatant fascistic ideas are starting to get a growing ground. The ilks of Sharron Angle is just a token on the underlying cancer in the western world today

There is a great deal of concern to be had when someone this extreme can get above 5% of the votes at anytime. But the solution is to shine the light and expose expose expose so the truth comes out. The fact that America today are just one ballot box away from sending people that are ultra rightwing extremes to Washington Is something everyone needs to stop and think what the hell is going on here.

No right thinking person should give recognition to, or express admiration for anything that flows from a dictatorship that essentially enslaves its people and holds them captive!

Folks, Pinochet was the very definition of fascism. He ended his life in disgrace as an internationally condemned criminal. Read a little if you haven't heard of him:

For Angle to use him as a role model is beyond the pale. Her ideas are a danger to democracy and America.

Something cancerous about it. Sharron Angle in and of herself isn't the problem, it's the sort of diseased state of mind she represents and if she come back in 2012, then it's metastasized.

Who knows what will happen but a woman as shamelessly ideological as she is, even as people recoil from her (not just disagree with her - she evokes an "ick" response) isn't likely to feel an qualms about inflicting herself on Nevada again.

Right - she can be like o'donnell and run for senate as a job. Then she can live off the political donations rather than use them to run for office. She is a joke and will stay that way.

Sharron Angle vs. John Ensign reminds me of Edwin Edwards vs. David Duke.

"Vote For The Crook, It's Important" could become "Vote for the Cheater, It's Important".

Isn't it interesting that right-wingers like Sharon Angle throw out terms like "freedom", "liberty" and "Founding Fathers" while in reality they admire regimes like Pinochet's who replaced a democratic republic with a dictatorship that imprisoned and killed any dissenters.

Sharron Angle has terrible political ideas--but I don't see the reason to take soundbytes and turn them into something grand. People have good ideas. There are hundreds of monarchs and other dictators who did great things. Now, Augusto Pinochet isn't one of the dictators to whom I'd specifically credit good ideas. But I could cite a good dozen or so monarchs or other form of dictator who had good ideas.

that's ancient eueropean indoctrination rearing it's ugly head.ask the holocaust survivors about dictators.

So let's break this down logically.

Premise: One dictator was the human embodiment of all evil. He did literally the worst things in human history to a group of people. (Note, I do not in any way disagree with that premise)

Conclusion: No dictator in all world history (including every monarch who has ever lived) has ever had a single good idea.

By analogy, are you aware that the Constitution, the founding document of American democracy, originally proclaimed that African Americans were three-fifths of a person. Now is that as bad as institutionalized genocide of a minority? I'm not gonna argue that. BUT, institutionalized regard of a minority as "three fifths" of a person is pretty darn bad. So applying your logic, no democracy's founding document has EVER had a good idea.
