This is where freedom is hard to do. I don't know all the details but I strongly believe the ACLU is for freedom as guaranteed to all citizens - right or wrong.

Prove your own claims. I'm not your intern.

A lot of people will ignore this so that they can continue their senseless blather about the ACLU being a "far left liberal" organization.

Since when is it a violation of civil liberties to ban a stalker from coming near the person he's been harassing?

I agree. We live near U of M and have heard all of the history of harassment from this Shirvell character. Now that he has been fired from his job, he has even more time to harass the student he has singled out for some weird reason. Meanwhile, if it was my child at this university, their actions are the least I would expect of them, when an adult, formerly powerful assistant prosecutor was stalking my son. Fanned.

ACLU does good and important work. However UM is correct in keeping this psycho off its campus. He is a known danger to Armstrong. UM would be liable if anything happens to Armstrong at the hands of Shirvell.

If the ACLU wants to provide 24 hour protection for Armstrong then they can condemn the University's efforts to keep Armstrong safe.

It may be that they're concerned that he's so unbalanced that he could be violent. If there were any direct threats in his fulminations, I'd think that'd be grounds. If not, then maybe this is overreaction.

No, the UM has a duty provided a safe environment for its students. This man has stalk and harassed one of its students. The man is still feel protest and say whatever he wants; he just can't come to UM while the student is still there.

It is same policy if a man was sexual harassing with verbal and written statements a female student. The school would ban him from campus

OK, ACLU, I GET IT

But I would ban him too, until there was a sincere amends, and some time passes, unless he has a legitimate reason to be there.

For now, his face on campus could only bring reminders of the negative crap against the Gay student, who would likely wish to have the whole thing be forgotten.

Are you kidding me? What about the civil rights of the law abiding student he was harassing because of his sexuality?

Much as I hate to agree with Shrivell (no typo) about anything, the ACLU is, unfortunately, correct in this case. They're not arguing about the right of UM to ban Shrivell from campus. They're stating (and validly) that the current procedure in place for such ban is unconstitutional on its face, as the ban cannot be lifted except by appealing to the same people who imposed it, and it is imposed without due process.
