Mr Monopoly finds himself in a unique position. Unlike other evil mascots, like the Hamburglar or Count Chocula, we're supposed to actually hate the man with the monocle. Cartoonish recognizability and class struggle symbolism at the same time? Just asking to be turned into street art, if you ask us.
LA artist Alec Monopoly thought the same thing. His pieces, posted around Los Angeles where even fat cats can see them, range from pop art to political cartoon. The backgrounds of some of the images are newsprint from the New York Times business section; if you're close enough in to read them, that means the images have done their job.
