Naked German Escaping From Trunk Spotted On Google Street View? (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 11/22/10 10:58 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:15 PM ET

Google Street View recently launched in 20 cities in Germany, and already the first mysterious sighting has occurred.

The odd scene appeared at 39 Zwerchgasse in Mannheim, where a man, presumably nude, appears to be climbing from the trunk of a car while a dog lies on the ground nearby.

Oh Thursday, Der Spiegel discovered the image, which is currently unavailable. According to Google, the mysterious image "is under review and will be available soon."

Granted, this is not the strangest mystery to appear on Google Street View, but it raises a few questions. Is the man escaping the trunk or settling in? Is he really naked? Is the dog dead? What's with the equipment to the left of the car? Is this scene merely a prank on the Google Street View team?

Take a look at Der Spiegel's screen grab of the strange sight (below), and tell us your theories in the comments. Then, check out how Germans have pranked Google Street View in the past, and view our slideshow of the most mysterious Google Street View sightings, included below.

HuffPo headlines remind me of this skit:
First commercial: "Is there something in your socks that you have to be aware of? News at eleven."
Second commercial: "What is in your socks that could be making you sick? Tune in at eleven."
Throughout the broadcast, multiple questions about socks causing illness, ending with "Stay tuned."
Last two minutes of show: "So, to answer the question, 'Are your socks killing you?' No."

Yup that's how they do it. Anyone remember the fake anchor on Arrested Development? He always would talk about a mundane report and follow it with "What that means for your weekend, next."

Those questions can only lead to de feet.

He could be checking for leaks in his trunk.

What's so strange? The car is obviously parked in front of a garage. The stuff on the left looks a lot like the interior lining of the trunk/boot. 50 bucks sez the guy is wearing a pair of shorts and is in his trunk, making some sort of repairs, or perhaps adding rear speakers. Been there, done that, "topless" myself.

Agreed. Its not clear that he's naked. He could be wearing shorts, and trying to fix his rear lights.

Is there a schedule posted of the areas to be done?

At the bottom there is a drop-down selection to show where the cars are currently driving, though it does not tell where they will be next.

The horse Aberdeen resident is hilarious.

This is obviously photoshopped. Look at the left side of the dog - it doesn't exist. Also, there's a clear line along the driveway bricks. If the dog's photoshopped in, what else has been changed?

Whatever the scenario one conjures up in this video, it's clear that Google's technology can be extremely useful in fighting crime. At the very least, this type of unusual activity can be reported to local authorities. It could well be used to prevent a kidnapping in progress, capture any criminal activity, and pinpoint the location. Google...the world's crime-fighting machine...I like it!

"Google's technology" consists of a fleet of cars taking 360° pictures of streets every couple of months and geo-tagging them. How would that be "extremely useful" in crime-fighting? This would be useful only when basically everything would be under surveillance 24/7, you sure you'd like that? Cause I wouldn't.

A convertible with the top down. It's hot. He's working on his car with shorts on and shirt off. The dog is napping near by. The stuff on the left came out of the trunk so that he could access whatever it is he's working on.

There is no mystery here.

On street view my partners brother can be seen grabbing groceries out of the back of his car while his wife stands nearby....they live in another country...

what are the odds.

Our business can be seen clearly on street view and has often helped out of towner's locate us...

thumbs up to the many positives of street view...however the "BIG brother" thought process often irks me....thank god our home is remotely located so at least we will have some privacy especially while the squirrels, chipmunks and other wildlife are doing their thing...LOL
