All well-orchestrated weekend getaways deliver a therapeutic dose of fantasy. In California, a quick escape from day-to-day drudgery functions on multiple levels--here the physical landscape is inexorably linked to film and fiction--as you wander a wine trail, stand among giant sequoias, or sip date shakes in an palm oasis, you simultaneously step into a parallel world captured on film. These ten spots are well worth a visit on their own merits, but the added fun of channeling Mr. Rourke, Bogart, a smart-ass Jack Nicholson, or an Ewok will set the hearts of film/boob-tube nerds aflame. Tell us about your favorites!

A note about Trazzler's slideshows: we don't do top-tens or best-of lists. Nor are we so morbid or presumptuous as to tell you where you must go before you shuffle off this mortal coil. The world is far too big and fascinating to encapsulate in any kind of definitive list. We simply chose the places that our writers have contributed that make us think, laugh, dream, and, plot our next escape. --Megan Cytron, Editor of Trazzler
