George H. W. Bush: Mitt Romney Would Make A 'Very Good President'

George H W Bush Mitt Romney

Former President George H.W. Bush appeared to give an early presidential endorsement to Mitt Romney Monday, when he told CNN's Larry King in an interview that he thought he would be a strong candidate and good leader.

"He's a reasonable guy," George Bush said of Romney. "He's a conservative fellow, that's good. But no, I think he'd be a good president, a very good president."

Bush continued:

"If you asked me, who will the nominee be, I couldn't tell you. We like Mitt Romney. We know him well and like him very much."

George H.W. Bush's son, Jeb, had also been floated as a potential contender in 2012, but the former president and his wife played down any possible immediate aspirations from the former Florida governor. Their willingness to support another likely candidate, perhaps the strongest at this time according to a recent Quinnipiac poll, may signify that Jeb Bush really isn't considering a run.

Both Bushes also weighed in on the Sarah Palin buzz, seemingly giving the conservative superstar's possible ambitions a cool review.

"I sat next to her once. Thought she was beautiful," Barbara Bush said of Palin. "And she's very happy in Alaska, and I hope she'll stay there."

WHY HIS JUDGMENT COUNTS.......

I am a Progressive and I worked hard for George HW Bush's reelection. As it turned out Clinton was a very fine President but I still admire Bush. He believed in the limited, carefully defined use of American forces AND in paying for the wars we fought. He understood alliances and would not move without them. His War in the Desert will be regarded as a textbook example  Read More...

The fact that he thinks Mitt is their best bet tells me more about the state of the Republican Party than about Mitt.

Curious that George Bush I didn't mention his son Jeb.  Or Neil.  Or Marvin.  Or Dorothy.  Perhaps he fully understands that anyone he indicates who has his approval has about as much chance of gaining the Teapublican Nomination in 2012 as Nancy Pelosi.

I would not be suprised if G. H W Bush also thinks that he was an excellent President and so was his son George W.

A classified document obtained by SPIEGEL German magazine shows notes from a meeting between a top German diplomat and Condoleezza Rice just weeks before the Iraq invasion.

It indicates steps by the German government to prevent the war and undermines claims in George W. Bush's memoir that Gerhard Schröder indicated he would support the president should the US go to war.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,730979,00.html

Also former German Chancellor Schröder Says Bush 'Is Not Telling the Truth' in his (fictional) memoir.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,728217,00.html

I wonder why W. Bush continues to damage America's reputation around the world and gets away with it every time.

In his book, Bush also wrote that he was shocked and furious in 2002 when he was compared to Adolf the former Austrian criminal dictator of Germany in WWII by the German Justice Minister Herta Däubler-Gmelin due to his Iraq policies. He wrote that it was difficult to imagine anything more insulting than to be compared to Adolf the former Austrian criminal dictator of Germany in WWII by a German official.

Gmelin was forced to resign over the comments.

Would I have to listen to another "America needs religion" speech from this guy? It was nauseating to see him try to convince right-wing pseudoChristians not to reject him for following the wrong fake Christianity.

By the election time in 2012 a junior high student will look better then Obama.

Even many junior high students know the difference between "then" and "than".

He's not exactly the most informed person to ask about that...

Which explains why only Larry King thinks he's worth interviewing.

Hey, "progressives" what say you about Mitt Romney, anybody have anything NICE to say, even if you don't support his pro-business, limited government policies, antithetical to "progressive" hegemony over the resistance of free-thinking voters?

I like his healthcare plan in Massachusetts....he does have the Presidential hair
06:20 AM on 11/27/2010
HIs healthcare plan has been a disaster, just like Obamacare will, raising costs, limiting patient selection, forcing mandates and busting the state budget:

How can these Bushes get any press on HuffPost without explaining who they really are versus who they present themselves to be? It is outrageous that they get press and get to set the agenda of these interviews and these articles.

HuffPost better get up to date on all the declassified information that shatters this illusion and for which US voters and taxpayers have a right to know!

You can't forget Prescott Bush, who was a Wall Street banker (not unlike these modern-day banksters). Not to mention that any time anything shady or suspicious happened, he had some kind of a connection to it (The Business Plot). Instead of investigating these claims, we elected his son and grandson into presidency.

Don't worry, your selective hearing will supplant any facts that come to light, and are already known.

Massachusettes thought he was so great that he was a one term Governor.
A Morman businessman who specialized in leveraged buyouts in the White House. Sounds a corporate wet dream. Religion for the masses and everything else for the rich.
GTH Bush and take your damn family with you.

Romney practically has it already.....first the GOP usually gives
it to the last second place guy, who ran a decent campaign....

Secondly, he and family are made for TV.....very apple pie...
and the Morman church has already been putting up ad's,
at least in key Ohio, that explain " we're just regular Christians ! "

Third, with business experience, although I think over-sold,
he'll be able to " bring common sense to economics ",
" help all business," etc......so I think he'll be
tough to beat once the US gets over the Morman thing....
and they'll use Obamas pastor to throw at the Dem's,
as if that was Ok then surely a mere Morman is.

I see Rubio in Florida as a real VP possibility....to
try for some of the Hispanic and Catholic vote.

I hope Obama get's his number's up within 6-8 months,
or we should look for Dr. Dean, etc......we can't go into
this with a wounded candidate.....and yes, I know,
some of you hate even the mention of that idea.
Just trying to be realistic.

I hate to admit it but I think Obama was the candidate
the right leader's wanted.....fairly easy to beat up on
after winning [ and they Didn't Want it themselves, to
deal with so many GOP problems $$$ ]....so with
the nasty Fox channel beating him up 24/7 I think
he has it very tough.

I want to see him challenged from the left in the primaries. I'd love to see Feingold or Kucinich....
