Whatever the case, Renner was stoked to be honored during MTV News' Thankful Week as one of the actors we're most grateful for in 2010. During our extended chat - which you can read here - we touched on everything from the "Mission" shoot and his upcoming superhero turn in "The Avengers" to why it's now difficult to head into his local Starbucks. But one particular bit of "Mission" news jumped out: Renner confirmed that he is indeed being groomed to take over the franchise from Tom Cruise.

I really can't watch Cruise in anything anymore. He spoiled it when he started jumping on couches, arguing with Brooke Shields and spouting off about Scientology.
But even though I like Renner he is not the guy for the part. Not enough of a heartthrob type guy

I've been a long time fan of Jeremy Renner since I first saw him play opposite David Boreanez on Angel for one episode. Hopefully this riding on his success with The Hurt Locker will boost him to greater heights, I think he's deserving. Just wish it was a better franchise...

All the Mission Impossible movies, including the first, sucked and never came close to the genius of the show.

Good move. I think this will help to revive the all-but-defunct Mission Impossible franchise, and possibly do for Mission Impossible what Daniel Craig did for James Bond.
