Mayor Bloomberg Approval Rating Hits Five Year Low

Bloomberg Turkey

A new Quinnipiac poll shows Mayor Bloomberg at a five-year low.

Only 55% of New Yorkers approve of how Bloomberg is handling the job, most likely a reaction to the nomination of Cathie Black, an inexperienced media executive, as the city's schools chancellor.

Forty eight percent of those polled feel the mayor is mishandling the public school system, while 64% believe an educational background is necessary to be chancellor of the city's public schools.

But the real litmus test for the public is whether or not one would sit down with the mayor for thanksgiving. A majority of the New Yorkers wouldn't cut the turkey with Bloomberg, with 42% saying the would invite him. These turkey numbers are consistent with the number in Quinnipiac's last poll five years ago.

Geez, does the man EVER really smile?

I'd sooner invite Ebenezer Scrooge over for dinner- at least, he became redeemed at the end. Doubtful for Mayor Mike.

I'd love Mayor Mike to come over and bring the champagne and caviar.

If he was electable and would run I'd vote for him over Obama or Palin next cycle.

In a terrible economy with high unemployment and with partisan bickering at an all time high, how can we say he "only" has a 55% approval rating? Thats higher than either political party, the president, the media, or most projected 2012 candidates from either side.

And for the record, people never care about the data on education. People complain about education system regardless of where they live, at every point in the last 100 years, regardless of how good their kids test scores are or what they spend in taxes - so I take that with a grain of salt.

Do you actually live in NYC or the boroughs?

If you did, you'd be singing a different tune.

I'd love to have him over for dinner. I'd lock the doors and make him listen to grievances that I (and most of us) have. I'd start with the disgusting and deplorable conditions at Animal "Care" and Control.

Am I the only person who is going to remind everyone that Quinnipiac not only got $13 million from Mike Bloomberg, but they said their poll numbers were 100% off (in favor of the emperor) in both 2005 and 2009, when they told anti-Mike voters to stay home because Mike was too popular?

What a dinner. We eat steamed vegetables, while he pours the salt on his turkey and Cheez-Its (he loves those). We'd also have to come by bike, and not bring soda, salt or anything over 80 calories (except for his royal dinner, of course).
Then after Mayor Mom protected us from these horrible dangers, we'd all go out to cheer his daughter as she fell from a horse and broke her back. Good for you! Get back on! he would cheer, not noticing the inconsistency one whit.
What did Mel Brooks say? It's good to be the king!

And good luck trying to get rid of him after dinner's over. He might decide to stay at your house for another four years.

He is not paying the right people as much anymore, and those that could not come trough are not getting paid either,.....

His focus is on the weakest of those amoung us, the native americans, the poor and those horrible teachers doing terrible things to our kids....at least that is his message....

Run Bloomberg for President, even though he would never win a state, ( the 3 most hated sins anti-gun, anti-hate of muslims, and the really-realy-jewish things) other then NY or Florida but that would split the vote on racial lines and it could get very nasty here in NYC. He would help any republican of course...

He may want to be Senator first....but he would have to go up against the junior senator fromw NYC, because chuck is a friend....

When he leaves office and the numbers are revealed that he has been hiding...he wont look so good, because he would have to pay off people no in fear of losing their jobs...

Real NYers left when the housing prices got insane, forgot the dream here and took the cash, my family included...but hey you pay 37000 for a home in 81 and could walk in 2007 with 800000, you walk...and screw the hood, the city and those stupid enough to stay ....like me...

Well, the Mayor only wants the wealthy to stay in NYC- according to him, they spend the money.

Guess he never thought about the rest of us- seems a lot of us will be joining those that made the move out of NYC soon.
