The 84th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade takes place in just a few hours on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, in the streets of New York.

Per the parade's official website, America's favorite Thanksgiving parade with massive balloons, elaborate floats, top-notch marching bands and celebrities will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern Time in Manhattan.

The parade will be broadcast live on NBC and is expected to be witnessed by an estimated 3.5 million attendees as well as 50 million at home.

NBC New York reports:

Macy's is pulling out all the stops for 2010, the company said, with a line-up that features more than 1,600 cheerleaders/dancers, 850 clowns, 15 giant character balloons, 43 novelty, ornament balloons, balloonheads and balloonicles, 12 marching bands, 27 floats, large performance groups and a host of celebrities including Kanye West, Kylie Minogue, Juanes, Jessica Simpson, Gladys Knight, Victoria Justice, Big Time Rush and many more.

The constant camera movement during the parade broadcast gave me motion sickness. I had to turn it off. The problem was that the camera in front of the main viewing area at Macy's was on a large boom that could sweep through large distances both horizontally and vertically. This doesn't play well on a 52" HD TV. I hope someone from NBC reads this. I'm still dizzy more than a day later.

The real miss was Macy's and NBC choosing to open with the vanilla, talentless All American Cow-Girls - instead of a razor sharp, talented Broadway Show number. Our family watches the parade every year specifically to sample the various Broadway show numbers. The Broadway cast and number which immediately followed the opening was talented and highly diverse.

I've just watched the opening number of the 84th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and I find myself abruptly disquieted on an otherwise peaceful Thanksgiving morning. It's a Hoedown production number performed by hundreds of girls from around the country who take dance lessons. I look at their faces and I am surprised to only see white. White, white, white. As it picks up, a handful of boys grab partners and are featured up front. White, white, white - wait - one black male dancer. No Asians, no Latinos, as things appear from the TV audience's vantage point. And no black female dancers. Really, NBC, this group is suppose to represent girls and boys from across the nation. Maybe the organizers of the event figured that Country/Bluegrass equals white only? NBC - watching those faces made me feel like the Macy's parade and NY itself were taken over by intolerant biggots...NBC - where's the diversity?

I'm sorry but I was saddened to read this. A person's skin color or physical appearance is not the only qualifier of diversity, nor should it be. The Macy's Day Parade, on the other hand, is full of diversity representing people who orginiate from multiple countries, religions, and parts of the country (and probably the world)-- which in itself is diverse. We can't assume those who appear asian, black, etc. were not allowed by NBC because they're not featured in the parade. And if they were not "rejected" from appearing, what's the loss to the viewers? Most could care less what the people look like.

To clarify, I was not speaking of the parade in its entirety. I just am saddened myself when a group claiming to represent teenage dancers from the entire country does not illustrate the true diversity of the USA. Also, you are putting words in my mouth saying I accused NBC of rejecting those of color. I only said that as it appears to the tv audience, the group said to represent all of America was, in fact, quite homogenous. I was encouraging NBC to be more aware of what kind of image is being projected on their broadcast. I'm not African American myself, but I am concerned about what kind of message, be it suble, is being presented for those teenage girls and young people watching a large group that claims to represent our entire nation, and there is no one like themselves shown on the TV screen.

Heidi:

Yes, I understand. I'm highly suspect of whites congregating and celebrating the things that whites once gathered to celebrate long ago while being white when they were a large majority in this country.

So let's continue to conduct the white genocide in America through immigration until it is impossible for them to gather together in a large group, let alone film it.

We know when whites gather together it means they are being racists, we can see that just because they have white skin. And their skin color gives us that clue (I'm white, I should know). Not only that, they have no right to an only or mostly white country. Only brown and black people are allowed that, for example, in Africa and Asia.

Okay, joking aside (except for the genocide). There IS no diversity if whites are forced or commanded to dilute their their genetic pool and numbers with nonwhites through immigration. The more nonwhites flood into white areas of the world the fewer diverse distinct racial groups will exist in the long run (because of intermarriage). I can only assume crazy and hateful people support this, that's why such a thing is called genocide in the first place. People who are guilt ridden whites or nonwhites who want to see white genocide are the only ones cheering on genocide masked as "diversity".

Do you always not know what you are talking about?

Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

I'm enjoying the Macy's Parade while getting things ready for Thanksgiving. Best moments so far --- The Rockettes, as always, and the marching pizza spinners ...
