UPDATE: We've compiled some new tips to help you sift through the Black Friday deals, including how to use social media tools to find savings, the best methods for finding savings and 27 stylish gift ideas.)

Black Friday deal season is upon us. But there's reason to believe this year's holiday shopping season may be cheery: retail sales grew in October at the fastest rate in seven months.

While the economy and unemployment levels have remained disheartening for most of the year, retailers are hoping low prices and special offers can lure cautious consumers into their stores. For many retailers, the holiday shopping season can mean the difference between a good year and a forgettable one.

This year's Black Friday bonanza will be complicated by the fact that Walmart is now offering free shipping with no minimum on their website. Few big box retailers have done this, and Walmart's actions will no doubt lead to other major retailers to offer similar deals.

More than a few sites, like Dealnews and Black Friday Ads, have sprung up to monitor the unofficial releases of Black Friday ads. Even CNN Money has created their own special Holiday Shopping Guide to monitor deals.

Below we've compiled some of the hottest deals and each store's hours of operation. Check them out below:

Walmart's Black Friday sale is relatively brief, it runs from 5 AM to 11 AM. Within that short amount of time, Walmart is cutting prices on many items. A Magnavox Blu-ray player with Wifi will be going for $69 and it includes a $10 in-store credit. HDTVs are also on sale, a 40" Samsung LCD TV will be available for $498.

Sales did not show an economic recovery after all. So yet another disappointment to the bulls. It really is time to sell out now before the reality of 2011 catches up, see: http://www.arabianmoney.net/us-dollar/2010/11/28/is-there-much-upside-left-for-stocks-in-2011/

Jeez now what happens to the naysayers, flat earthers, MSM and the Party Of No now that spending is going on like there's no tomorrow. Anyone that goes about daily business can see that spending is pretty much normal and has been. Get corporations to help by hiring and we might just move out of this recession. But since their feelings have been hurt, so the spin goes, they'll just take it out on the middle class until their million dollar bounus rise to a hundred million.

it seems that they stock 10 or 20 of the really good deal items. It seems that "best buy" is the worst with this b*s*

What many people who are stupid enough to want to camp in front of a store for hours, even days before it is open so that they can be the first to get the discounted items, realize is that many if not most of those items are the junk brands. Especially electronics. A deeply discounted Panasonic TV? Really? Panasonic is a budget (ie: junk) brand. Their stuff is already cheap (in price as well as quality). The top-shelf stuff doesn't usually go on sale until about 2 weekends before Christmas. An Audiovox mp3 player is only $19.99? Hold me back before I go crazy and buy 2.

I found the biggest, best deals in my neighborhood. My local used book store is where I shop. I support small businesses in my community, and I give the gift of knowledge and power.

What could be better?

Oh yeah- I don't have to set foot in a big box store. Praise Buddha!

This year, hopefully no one will be trampled to death.
08:24 AM on 11/26/2010
Many of us count on the yearly tramplings as a staple of our holiday entertainment. Why do you want to take that away from us? :)

Seriously. Thin out the herd.

tax all corporations 75% of all profits if more than 45% of their workforce is out of the country...not only would bringing the jobs back to america stimulate the economy, the corporations wouldn't be hurt at all because all the new jobs made would make people feel safe about spending, and where will they spend? on the products by large corporations....basically everyone wins, except china and india

That would pretty much drive the rest of the jobs out of the US.
08:26 AM on 11/26/2010
I have a better idea. IF a company has more than 40% of its jobs overseas, we ban the executives from the country. These P&*^$% love to outsource low wage jobs, but if they had to move to Vietnam themselves, things would change in a hurry.

In ancient Athens, when someone became too powerful, they were often banished for a period of ten years. I think this is a practice we should consider bringing back.

Happy holidaze!

Black Friday is research for my Consumer Behavior as well as my Advertising & Promotions Classes I will teach in January. Other than that, I pick up birthday gifts for the kid with a December Bday, perhaps shoes for the kids symphony outfits since December is filled with theatrical performances for us. We never camp out or fight over anything, not worth it. I wouldn't mind a deep discount ereader for my daughter or netbook for her, but ultimately, there will be other sales and the reason for the season is not the junk...but it will give me good material for my students!!!!

to those of you who will be shopping.. please buy US made stuff.. remember that when you buy imported stuff your money will support jobs in other countries rather than ours..Buy fewer items, check the labels, and try to support American jobs..Do some internet searches.. you'll be surprise at what you can find.. You can also give to a charity to honor a particular individual or family instead of purchasing more stuff they may not need..

The only black on my Friday will be the backs of my eyes. I have no intention of waking up at 2 a.m. just to give a CEO a hefty bonus.
