AOL News:

For years the government has known that the attics and walls of as many as 35 million homes and businesses are insulated with Zonolite, which contains lethal asbestos-tainted vermiculite. Some medical authorities believe that people are still dying because of it.

I think the real worth in this story is that it makes people aware of the possibility that asbestos might be in their house in some form, and the health problems that can occur due to asbestos exposure. It is time that the U.S. updates the TSCA and makes asbestos illegal. Instead of simply griping, we can work together. This must be a more regional story than the article would indicate.
I have been in thousands and thousands of attics in Washington state.
We have found vermiculite type insulation in a few hundred attics.
We have it tested and we have had one, ONE case where it contained asbestos.
I can't speak to the conditions in other regions, but here in Wa this is a non story.
What we do have is lots of asbestos covered duct work.
Often in basements where the homeowner has access and might disturb it.
That is when it becomes dangerous.

Why act on this when people who get sick will crawl toward Obamacare and create more revenue for the ins/pharma industries.

Do not trust the government.

Anyone who thinks the Obama Administration would do ANYTHING to hurt corporate profits is at this point living a 2 year old dream.

As long as it makes the rich richer and throws the middle class further under the bus President Obama will support it.

No, we only ask our government to do the job, they were set up to do.
Public safety, I believe is high on that list.
Instead of using taxpayer money to fund a "fake war", they could of used the Trillions of dollars protecting the American people from the crooks and corporations killing us here at home.

#1 The government should protect the safety of the public. Whether it is from Terrorists, Serial Killers, hazardous and unsafe, food, drugs and products etc.
#2 The government should set standards in Consumer Protection and/or FDA to PREVENT hazardous food, materials and drugs from entering the marketplace.
#3 Those responsible for allowing hazardous/unsafe products to enter the marketplace should be criminally prosecuted. Any repercussions resulting from this negligence those responsible should be held personally financially liable.
If our representatives signed an agreement to have their assets held in a collateral trust and they were held financially liable for their decisions, I would presume such public servants would yield the most appropriate kind of decision-making.

Well if the government tried to resolve this issue there wouldn't be as much money for the wars - so you know who will win at this - not the American people.

Well the up side of this is that when I have end stage cancer and am in hospice at home I will at least have impeccable insulation to help keep the heat regulated because my skin and bones body won't be able to do the job anymore!

Rarely do I post a comment here, cos more often than Not, they are Not posted.... But this requires a comment... Back in 1994 I removed asbestos from schools government sites etc.... It never made any sense to remove 10% asbestos tile, yet to leave asbestos laden drywall... The word was that all the removed asbestos will soon be replaced with an even more damaging fiber glass.... So I was looking forward to removing that as well.... However, the corporates took over after Clinton.... Worried about your kids texting and driving???? You should worry about what your kids are eating and breathing at school.....

The official rock of California is “Serpentineâ€: Chrysotile asbestos.

Not sure banning it will save you; your state is full of this naturally occurring stuff…
