Claire McCaskill: GOP 'Hiding Behind The Skirts' Of Jon Kyl On START Debate (VIDEO)

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) accused Republicans over the weekend of "hiding behind the skirts" of GOP Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) in what she characterized as a politically motivated opposition to the START nuclear arms reduction treaty.

During a debate between McCaskill and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Fox News Sunday, Graham expressed concern over the preamble of the contract, which he said could allow Russia to opt out of its terms if the United States and its NATO allies continued, as planned, to develop their missile defense systems.

McCaskill played down Graham's worry and claimed that the GOP's reasons for wanting to neglect the START treaty in the next legislative session was all about politics.

"Lindsey Graham is a responsible senator who doesn't play these games," McCaskill said. "But there is some game playing going on with the START treaty, and it's all about politics and trying to damage the president of the United States, and this is a moment where we need to set that aside and look at what really this is."

McCaskill continued:

"Look at Dick Lugar, who I think instead of playing politics and hiding behind the skirts of Jon Kyl. I hope that the Republicans look at Richard Lugar, the ranking member of the Foreign Relations Committee, who has said, unequivocally, 'we need to do this START treaty and look at what's going on in the world right now.'"

McCaskill is looking likely to face a strong GOP challenge during her reelection battle in 2012. Jim Talent, who McCaskill defeated in 2006 to take the seat, as well as former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman, have both been eyeing the current conservative bloom as a potential opportunity for an entry into the race.

This is like the entire Republican Party is acting like Cheney v Plame, in concert. Wow.

Blocking START would imperil our nation. Surely, no breathing citizen could endorse such an reckless act of ultimate anti-Americanism...

Republicans,

Why would you endorse behavior that only authoritarian extremists express? Like hurt Americans and destroy the Middle Class? Are you collectively that stupid? Do you not understand that a thriving Middle Class is an imperative in a democracy? Why then are your leaders attacking that which bestows aid to Americans in need?

In need because of the actions of your party? There is no controversy here. None.

Clearly, the Republican Party hasn't "manned up" and owned its mistakes. It proves this by maintaining Mind Bush ideology and attempting to create a corporatist state like the militant corporatists never left office. Like Cheney is still pacing Congress' halls.

Why would you turn on the Founders and follow alien politicians down their totalitarian rabbit hole?

Do you know where you are? Do you know what corporatism is?

It is good that there is a link to this:

"The Arizona Republican didn't pinpoint specific disagreements he had with the language of START. Rather, he said failure of passage would be because Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), had already scheduled away the time needed to consider the measure by packing the lame duck docket with legislative gifts to Democratic constituents."

So, the Honorable Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), is fabricating issues to blame on Republicans.

Very typical behavior from the left.

I kinda like that deer-in-the-headlights picture of the Honorable Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.). Fits right in with her rhetoric.

You have got to be kidding. The GOP playing games? That hasn't happened ever(?) My hope is that both sides realize that they work for the Country, but that hope has been dimmed by the stands of the GOP leadership(?) and the inability of the Democrats to get things in order. Hope springs life eternal, but it's fading.

There has got to be another way out of this leadership morass. Just imagine if 2 million unemployed people were able to organize themselves on behalf of the middle class, what a difference that would make.
10:17 AM on 11/30/2010
Put our security at risk for political gain by obstructing the Start Treaty...Do not pay unemployment benefits that are paid into by the people but extend and borrow for the millionaires..adding $700 billion to the deficit!

This is not hiding --this is blatant ANTI AMERICAN behavior by the demented republicans!

Gee, a legislator who understands a treaty like this is in the best interests of the United States and shouldn't be held hostage by one party intent on inflicting damage on the other...a legislator prepared to speak frankly. Poor thing, she doesn't have a chance.

Why's that? Because she's responsible enough to want a treaty everyone else in the world wants, including former GOP Sec of State and Defense? A treaty that will help get rid of many of the loose nukes in the former Soviet Union and is being held up for political reasons by a hack politician? Because he wants to help protect the human race from a nuclear holocaust? Do you know what's in the treaty? Probably not, except Fake News told you to be against it.

I will have to stand up for Claire. She is a she, not a he. I don't watch fox news. You people like to label everyone and assume we are all the same, but you are wrong about that just like a lot of other things.
. I don't think much of Claire because I don't like the way she votes, and I don't think she votes how the people she represents want her to vote. In two years she will find out how costly voting against her constituents can be.
