Dr Drew

HLN primetime is finally getting a male face: Dr. Drew Pinsky.

The famous TV doctor will join the network's primetime programming block in the spring, HLN chief Scot Safon announced Monday.

"I am thrilled to join HLN and I have no doubt that the natural fit I feel at the network will provide the opportunity to explore the stories behind the story and really explain the choices that people make," Pinsky said the announcement.

"Dr. Drew informs and inspires audiences on subjects that matter most to them and their families, and he is an ideal fit for the HLN network," Safon said. "Whether the topics are in the news or simply in the daily lives of our audience, Dr. Drew will shed light, provide crucial information and give viewers something to talk--and think--about."

HLN's current primetime lineup includes Nancy Grace at 8PM, Joy Behar at 9PM and a repeat of Grace's show at 10PM. "Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell" airs at 7PM, and "Showbiz Tonight" airs at 11PM. The network did not indicate what timeslot the new Dr. Drew show would occupy.

Pinsky is known for his work on VH1's "Celebrity Rehab," "Sober House" and "Sex Rehab" shows as well as his longtime radio show, "Loveline."

Dr. Drew was educated at USC school of medicine and was employed at hospitals in Huntington Beach and Pasadena, CA, where he was Director of the Department of Chemical Dependency Services. His father was a doctor and his mother a singer/actress. I would say he's credible through his medical education and experience as well as his genes. I've been a long time fan of Dr. Drew, he rocks!

I remember this guy when he was a professional with credibility. Now he perform parlor tricks, using his training to render public analysis of people's private problems. What a waste of education.

Hopefully, the Doc will tell his new shows' audience how he finds fame addicting......

CNN is not the only network that has already clearly proven that news is essentially entertainment. They don't need Drew Pinsky for that. But putting someone on the air who promotes 12-Step faith healing as science and "treatment"?

That would be no different than giving Benny Hinn his own show on HLN to promote his brand of faith healing as science.

Me, too. She was a trip, wasn't she. I've read she became a private investigator after Headline News.

For those asking who is Dr. Drew?

He's an actual doctor, an addiction specialist. He has been on the radio for 20+ years. He is legit, but having him on HLN or MTV does kind of discredit him. Or does it? I think he may be trying to reach these young generations, by going through their channels of choice. I'm a fan. He's honest, smart, and conservative. What's not to like?

Many of these people are now becoming addicted to fame. Their getting in trouble and going back on drugs to help ease their pain, when the public and media are no longer interested in them.
Not good, not good at all. The good Doctor is now one of those addicts...Getting as many shows as he can, there's a word for that, addict.....

This is hardly a "new" face, he is EVERYWHERE, all the time!

I wonder why HLN got away from its all-news format. It's turning into another opinion-driven faux-news network and tha't not a good thing.
