The World's Best Christmas Markets (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 11/30/10 08:11 AM ET   Updated: 09/20/11 12:04 PM ET

With Thanksgiving past, we are now thankful that we're officially allowed to daydream about and plan for the holiday season ahead. Whatever the holiday tradition you're looking forward to, gift-giving is likely to be a part of it. Think of these photos of some of the biggest and best Christmas markets around the world as a prelude to your own local holiday markets. Though we'd be lying if we said we weren't tempted to hop on a plane to Germany's original Weihnachtsmärkte too.

Whether global or local, what are your favorite Christmas/Holiday markets? Send us your photos and thoughts!

I love the Christkindl Weihnachtsfest, in Munich and also in Heidelberg. Its so much fun, get yourself a warm gluehwein and warm in the cold of winter outside. The Gingerbreadhearts are for young lovers, with sayings, like, I love you, Darling ect.ect. The different foods, they have only at markets, children riding the merry go round, ponies are there to be touched and feed, Popcorn, Cotton candy, oh so many wonderful memories.

I've been to numerous Christmas Markets in Germany. I prefer the small town markets, less crowded, but they have the same atmosphere and goods.

Birmingham UK has a very good German Market running up till Christmas thanks to its twining with Frankfurt.

The Germans seem to do Christmas fairs very well.

If the subject is "christmas markets", it might have been nice to actually capture the magic of 'em in those pictures.
