Cable News Ratings: Top 30 Programs In November 2010 (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 12/01/10 08:35 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:15 PM ET

It's not a surprise that Fox News swamped all of the other cable news channels in the November ratings -- it tends to do that every month. However, there were some surprises to be found in this month's ranking -- chief among them that "Special Report With Bret Baier," which has been the fourth-highest rated show in cable news for what seems like forever, vaunted into second place, moving past Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. Elsewhere, the ratings stayed pretty stable, though some shows, such as "Morning Joe," have been showing steady gains over the past couple of months.

How did individual shows do? Below, see the top 30 programs for November 2010.

How exactly are these ratings tabulated? Do they count all of the patrons in all bars that have FNC on 24/7 or do they just guesstimate? That has to be the largest viewer segment unless a big sporting event is on. I'd like to see how FNC ratings fare when that happens.

I love how they love to say, "We report, you decide" What they fail to mention and no one who watches Fox would figure out on their own is that BEFORE they report The RNC has decided what they should be reporting on.

Fox news covers both sides of a story, while leaning to the right. All other media outlets lean to the left. So Fox enjoys half of the market place, that also leans right. And all the other outlets compete for the rest of the market.

When did Fox ever cover both sides? BTW, they are the reason we have so much
misinformation, to even call them news is ridiculous. they should call themselves
FOXPAC.

Fox crew tops! Just goes to show how many people set in front of the TV zoned out with the constant drone of by ya ya ya, ha ha with a few smirks thrown in. How easily some can be entertained.

Interesting. I think Bret probably got a boost from the election coverage, where he was pretty good. I'm not sure why Matthews fares so poorly, I think he's one of the better on MSNBC. Although likewise, I think he did poorly on his election coverage. Morning Joe is one of the few shows that you seem to get a good taste of both sides of things, I hope he continues to climb.

Mathews election night quote "I get a thrill up my leg when I hear Obama speak" Is this the kind of journalism you support?

If you are easily distracted by shinny objects and you bite things to identify them you probably think Fox snooze is informative.

Can someone, especially hufffpo, post the total number of viewers on ALL the other shows during the Fox at the same time? I mean, maybe 3 million people watch a Fox program, but how many millions are watching something else? And I wonder how many Fox viewers are getting their news from print media? or online? if they can read or operate a computer.

Why the labeling; typical progressive assumptions? People who watch Fox News do not know how to read or even operate a computer, but in the next breath conservatives are evil rich people who support dirty water and air. How does one build a business without being able to read or use a computer?

You'll never get an answer to that one. You'll probably just get called some names

I feel bad for Anderson Cooper - I really think he's great. Can't believe he didn't rank higher than some of those goofballs on Fox!

I think you should be careful with some of that violent rhetoric.
See how that works?

What I would like to know is how many of those 3M+ viewers of O'Reilly are Democrats who like to watch O'Reilly to rile them up.

The author of this article is as steep in falsehoods as is Faux News. Any reporter who respects the true value of reporting the news would never refer to a media that is constantly caught lying as "news." This author is just as guilty as Fox of misleading the public.

Everytime HP posts the ratings it seems as though the same trolls come out with the same comments.

Poor Joe, I guess he's not conservative enough. As for Fox, the cartoon network, who cares?

One complement that even non-Republicans should respect is that Fox News has several non-commentary shows ahead of MSNBC and CNN. Make fun of Beck, and Hannity all you want. They don't claim to be journalists. They simply tell their viewers what they think (like Olberman/Maddow/O'Donnel/Schultz/Mathew and that's half of MSNBC's weekday coverage). Bret Blair and Shepherd Smith are great journalist and should be commended for their professionalism and their ratings.

This has GOT to be killing libs ... FOX is running roughshod over anything on the Left. O'reilly's RERUN at 11 PM is garnering more audience than Olberman and Maddow's prime time shows COMBINED. His RERUN! Just how dead is the Left media?

Now you see why Congress/Libs is wanting to see a "Fairness Doctrine/Policy" imposed ...

Too funny ....

You have to pay more on your cable bill to get MSNBC. Fox is free.

That's not true.

Fox News and MSNBC is always offered in the same package.

Fox News has a reach of 99 million households; MSNBC has a reach of 95 million. So only roughly 4% of households only to one but not the other. This is obviously negligible in the context of a difference in viewership measured in the hundreds of percent.

The reason why FOX beats MSNBC is simple - FOX is entertainment, MSNBC is actual news. Entertainment wins every time.
08:54 PM on 12/05/2010
yea ... that's why more than 7 million Amercians tuned into Fox for the elections ... beating ABC, NBC, and CNN. All the other, such as MSNBC, weren't even in the game. people go to where the trust ...
