Police arrested nine protestors, some of them in giant bagel outfits, at Grand Army Plaza Wednesday. The protestors were marching outside mayor Bloomberg's World AIDS Day Bagel Breakfast at the Brooklyn Public Library. The New York Times reports:
The demonstrators, from the nonprofit group Housing Works, were protesting what they called devastating cuts that the mayor proposes each year to city services for low-income people with AIDS, such as housing and nutrition, Housing Works said.
The arrested protesters, seven men and two women, were charged with disorderly conduct, a violation; two of the men were also charged with obstructing government administration, a misdemeanor, the police said.
The protesters could be heard chanting: "Cream cheese and chives won't save lives,"
