First Posted: 12/01/10 07:59 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:15 PM ET

Each year hundreds of people look forward to the unveiling of holiday window displays. They're beacons of the start of the holiday spirit, they provide inspiration for delightful (not to mention impressive) holiday gifts, they're distractions from getting to work on time, staying in the same lane you're driving in, and from remembering that errand you had to run. And we're forever thankful. Check out our pick for year's best holiday windows around the world.

This year, Barney's in New York inspires laughs with their humorous and fun "Have a Foodie Holiday" window display theme.

Ok....I admit to being a senior citizen, but I still like the windows of the 50's...the trains, fake snow, Santa and the reindeer "flying" over the top of a display....nostalgia wins in my book.

Tiffany's is my favorite. Just keep it simple and "Christmasy". Not so bizarre! Window dressings should be a scene we can somehow relate to rather than a snapshot from a sci-fi movie.

Apparently "around the world" now just means London and NYC. Pretty lame.

I would never spend my money at Harrods but the other day I was stuck in traffic in front of it and appreciated the Peter Pan display. The Tinkerbell was particularly magical.

There's a store in Vancouver, BC which shows Mrs. Claus serving the reindeer dinner on Christmas day. The antlered fellows are dressed up in their best tuxes and there are silver candelabra and domed platters on the table. Champagne in flutes ect.. Santa is asleep at the head of the table.

Apparently the designers of the Barney's window missed the season finale of South Park.

Barney's: It's time to hire window dressers who know what they're doing!

Didn't you mean "christmas" windows?

I like that windows are getting a macabre treatment for this bloated, whorrific "holiday" season of spending and freaking out.

How can anyone look at the Barney's window and say that was a good idea for the holidays? It looks more like a nightmare window from Halloween.

None of those windows really gave me a holiday feeling!

Let's hear it for Tiffany's in S.F.. The rest look like drug induced nightmares. The bulk of our population is not made up of art snobs. These windows are for the 5% (maybe less) of the population who believe they have to go to the extremes to be "real art".

Garbage.

Good G-d those Barney's windows are disgusting and ugly. Classless. What a statement on the holiday, but somehow I don't hear anyone whining about this particular "attack" on Xmas, gotta wonder why, as it puts the Smithsonian exhibit to shame.
