Today is Writer Wednesday on Twitter, marked by the hashtag #ww or #writerwednesday, and in honor of it, we've compiled some of the best aphorisms on writing.

It seems that every author from E.B. White to Tony Morrison has something direct and profound to say about the craft of writing, and these are just 9 of the best statements we could find.

We'd love to keep this going as a weekly feature, so let us know your favorites and we'll keep adding them.

My all time favorite quote about writing:

“If communication is perfect, the words have life, and that is all there is to good writing, putting down on the paper words which dance and weep and make love and fight and kiss and perform miracles.” Gertrude Stein
