Bruce Oldfield British Bookies' Favorite For Kate Middleton's Wedding Dressmaker

First Posted: 12/02/2010 1:03 pm Updated: 05/25/2011 6:15 pm

Designer Bruce Oldfield is the frontrunner in the guessing game of who will design Kate Middleton's wedding dress, WWD reports.

Irish bookie Paddy Power told the fashion newspaper that the odds are 1-3 Oldfield and that betting has been put on hold thanks to a "flurry of big-stake bets" of more than £500, or $780. A spokesperson said, "We saw this pattern of royal wagers with the venue and the date and they both proved correct. Although we didn't expect a betting plunge on the dress designer to happen quite so soon, when the stakes changed from fivers and tenners to hundreds of pounds, it appears as though the cat is out of the bag."

Oldfield told WWD last month, "If I was lucky enough to be asked, I'd be delighted." And when we polled on which designer Kate should wear, Bruce Oldfield won. Coincidence? Well, that remains to be seen.

Kate is a skinny hottie and gets a 7, pack a little weight on her and she may go to a 9.

One of my friends mom's close friends is most likely going to go to the wedding cuz they are really good friends with the Middletons!! I think that's really cool. Don't really care about the dress will find out on April 29. So just wait

All just a guessing game. Whomever she chooses to design her wedding dress, she is bound to look fantastic. She always does.

Bruce Oldfield is a terrific choice. He was one of Diana's favorite designers and designed some of her most beautiful and memorable dresses. I do hope he's the one.

They took 8 years to really get to know each other and played their time right, grew up together to become mature adults, know their differences and I think it will work for them. Yep, they played their cards right and this wedding will be theirs, not the queen's.

They all work for the queen that is the point. His job is to be a positive example of the monarchy so that they monarchy will survive. Every move is calculated and goes through the Queen and Charles's staff. This is not a fairytale it is big business. It is nice if they love each other but we don't need to pretend that this is not strategic - because it is. The population is much more savvy than the '70s and '80s we don't have to pretend that we don't know what their purpose is.
