Santa Speedo Run: Near-Naked Runners Freeze For Diabetes

Chicagoans love to show off their ability to deal with super cold weather. There's the Polar Plunge and the Santa Speedo Run--which is happening this weekend.

The Santa Speedo Run is a one mile trek down Rush Street. Instead of running pants and jackets, however, participants wear as little as possible. Temperatures are expected to be in the high 20s Saturday morning.

"Speedos and swimsuits encouraged," according to the group's Facebook page. They will tolerate sweatshirts and parkas--but insist that all running gear is festive. Santa hats, striped bikinis and red speedos were popular at last year's event--which raised $5,500 for the Chicago Diabetes Project.

What: Santa Speedo Run

Where: Starts at Shenanigans, 16 W. Division St.

When: 11 a.m. Saturday, December 4

Cost: $40 covers the race, a three-hour open bar with snacks, a Flip Cup tournament, costume contest and "North Pole" dancing.
