WikiLeaks.ch DOWN: New WikiLeaks Domain Name Not Responding

The Huffington Post
First Posted: 12/03/10 12:14 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:15 PM ET

The troubles for WikiLeaks continue: It seems that wikileaks.ch, the domain that WikiLeaks switched to after wikileaks.org was taken offline for six hours last night, is now also down.

However, users can still reach the site by going directly to this IP address: 213.251.145.96.

EveryDNS, which hosts doman names, released the following statement today:

First, let's be clear, this is a difficult issue to deal with and there are opinions on all sides. Second, EveryDNS.net, the world's largest free managed DNS provider, is not taking a position on the content hosted on the wikileaks.org or wikileaks.ch website, it is following established policies so as not to put any one EveryDNS.net user's interests ahead of any others. Lastly, regardless of what people say about the actions of EveryDNS.net, we know this much is true - we believe in our New Hampshire state motto, Live Free or Die.

Like wikileaks.org, wikileaks.ch had been using EveryDNS as its host.

No comment from WikiLeaks yet on this latest outage, though the new domain name was likely the victim of a fresh wave of cyber attacks.

The Dutch-Flamish Association for Investigative Journalism has made a search index available for the wikileaks documents http://cablesearch.org/

Well isn't nice that our big brother is after wikileaks. They can't put this much pressure on our enemies as they have wikileaks. Everyone better use another search engine. Besides google, and bing if you go looking for that site. They will have you all pegged.

Wikileaks is alive and well.  Just cut and paste this number in your URL bar to go to Wikileaks:  46.59.1.2

People, there is a working US-based mirror at http://bit.ly/ht6HqE. You can download the CableGate portion of WikiLeaks, or you can simply browse the file. Please spread this information through Twitter, here, or any other forums.

Thank you,
@WikiLeakMirror

Because the site is still hosted somewhere, it is still possible to access the content via an IP address. It is hosted at

Thank You! I've seen the 213.251 address in other places, but when I tried it, it STILL wouldn't work. Luckily the 46.59 address still works, at the time of this post: 11PM ET, 12-4-10. F&F.

Yes, thanks. I was surprised a few minutes ago that the site was down. I've downloaded the insurance file, too (although I see that someone is trying to remove the torrent). Get it now, because whoever is attacking the site is persistent.

Assange being the public face of Wikileaks is very bad. Because of his distorted narcissism, this organization cannot remain entirely underground and effective. Remember the Weathermen of the 60's? They were 100% underground and NEVER surfaced publicly until they turned themselves into the FBI. Their organization was the gold standard as far as I am concerned. As revolutionaries, you have to make organizational sacrifices, and Assange's psychological problems (which are evident) he hampers Wikileaks as an organization that has life beyond his. He cannot stay out of the public eye which will be his downfall. Come January, with conservative Republicans essentially driving the agenda, they'll come after him with everything they've got. And, additional hacking both domestically and abroad will hound their servers into the ground. Assange as the public face of Wikileaks is finished. Even some of his former partners realize this.

All the Republicans will be able to do is block more effectively.  They won't be able to control the government in any other way.  Did you pass high school civics?

The site being up is meaningless. The problem is the CONTENT is not available - the torrent link doesn't work - 0 seeds.

Who is behind the attacks on the WIkileaks site?

I am curious because this sort of attacks on "undesirable" sites could have far-reaching repercussions in the future particularly because these WikiLeaks attacks seem to have a measure of tacit social approval.

This may cause unintended effects as self-appointed vigilantes may feel freer to take on sites they disagree with or to impress peers in their belief cliques. Corporations that specialize in hacking could potentially also emerge from the debris and aftermath of this crisis.

I have to believe that Assange would have known this was going to happen sooner or later. Go Wikileaks!

One of the last batches after the Rueters video and before the Afghan War Diaries was just that, wikileaks proof of US DoD plans of cyber attack. Going to the website seems ludicrous to me right now, the DoD plan was a DOS, so by going to the site or even a mirror you are in effect helping them overload the servers. To help them right now download the torrent file insurance.aes256 and wait for the password.

Every post in support of Assange will help to combat the reactionary response. Enough posts in support will eventually reshape the dialogue into a victory for Civil Society. If I say "god bless Julien Assange and his brave actions" it may not seem like much but it matters.
