Charles Blow: The Left Needs To 'Get Over' Sarah Palin

Palin

The New York Times:

This is it. This is the last time I'm going to write the name Sarah Palin until she does something truly newsworthy, like declare herself a candidate for the presidency. Until then, I will no longer take part in the left's obsessive-compulsive fascination with her, which is both unhealthy and counterproductive.

Me too.I've had it.I just heard Pat Buchanan say on Hardball that as a result of palin bagging a deer on her tv show,& eating a mooseburger in the rain, that she has become more electable as a pres. candidate. Is this really what it has come to?Vote for someone for pres.because they can hunt & eat in the rain. She didn't even do it simultaneously.I live in Alaska,& everyone I know hunts & eats deer, sometimes when it's raining, which it almost always is,but sometimes when it isn't raining.I personally don't like to eat in the rain, but I'll eat in my car when it's raining.I personally, wouldn't vote for any of my friends for pres.that hunt & eat,in or out of the rain, especially the neighbor who lives across the street.I don't even think he should be allowed to have a gun, because he is so crazy & drunk most of the time.America, GET IT TOGETHER! Palin is a manifestation:"a public demonstration,as by a Gov.or party for political effect".She isn't real,it's a facade, there isn't anything there......

"She’s the Zsa Zsa Gabor of American politics" oh really! because that is not what the REAL AMERICANS see, we see a loser that won't go away so we can really solve problems in this country, we see a person who is afraid to do a normal news interview because she is scared REAL AMERICANS will see she is a fake, we see this person hiding on the internet like a predator would as he hunts for his next catch. So please do not put Ms Gabor’s name next to this woman, because she is no Zsa Zsa Gabor by any means.

Sooner or later, Sarah will slow down a bit and go away for a while. BUT we need her to stay around and run for president in 2012. After she is Defeated and President Obama is re-elected by a Huge Landslide Victory, then I believe Sarah Palin will 'wake up' and realize that it's over for her as a Politician, a 'Mama Grizzly' and a Fake, Fraud and Official Republican Tea Party Moose F@rter.

She'll go home and try to figure out how to use all the Millions she got from her idi0tic worshipers, who will have kicked her to the curb, anticipating the next 'younger, prettier face' for 2014...

Everyone have a Good Evening. Back to work tomorrow...

Trying to ignore Palin is like trying to ignore melanoma. It can be done, but the cancer won't go away.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been begging people to IGNORE her and for now on will not read ANYTHING about her unless someone tells me a major tragedy has happened in her life. Then I might listen. We keep giving her attention and next thing we know, we will have a dingbat as president of the USA.

I don't mind hearing about Palin..she's a welcome distraction from stress in my life...my son is in the war, my dad is dying of cancer, and my son's ex-girlfriend is taking my granddaughter to Ft. Johnson (?) in Alaska.

Yes, a distraction.

Time to Pull the Plug on Palin
http://threebrain.blogspot.com/2010/12/time-to-pull-plug-on-palin.html

A Palin presidency would affect the entire world, and the world is watching ... and wondering when in hell the American media will begin to do its prescribed duty. Vet Mrs. Palin, please, NOW. Take note of her ties to a secessionist organization. Take note of her fake pregnancy (pdf). Take note of her connections to dominionism and the Seven Mountain proponents. Take note of her abysmal record of raising her own children - one an unwed mother who is likely pregnant again, another a school bus vandal, another yet a house vandal. Take note of her legacy as half-term governor, where elders were abused, where indigenous people were abandoned, where the environment was sacrificed in the name of profits, where ethics and transparency were simply feel-good words and not guiding principles.

So the theory is that ignoring her will make her "go away"?
As long as the left doesn't pay any attention, Palin's voice will be silenced and all will be well with the world? She'll vanish into some kind of obscurity and that will take care of the problem, right? Never mind that the right will keep her in the limelight in every way they can... no matter that her mad hatter's tea party thinks she's the second coming. It's Huff Post that's responsible for her notoriety
No matter how outrageous her attacks, claims and behavior, we should all be good little boys and girls and look away, pretending she isn't there. After all, ignoring and denying the problem always works so well. When there is a festering wound, don't make a fuss, just don't look at it, and everything will be fine. And when it spreads and infects the entire body... what then?
Sorry Charles... that particular viewpoint is just overly simplistic and naive. If only that was all there was to it... however, it's not.

So Over It

While it might be naive -- and I'm not sure it is -- it's a pretty good start. The continued focus on her leads to the perverse illusion of credibility (can you say "Kanye West"?), and the notion that she is actually doing/saying anything worthwhile or newsworthy. And to your point about "being good little boys and girls..." well, yes. We could actually devote more press time to real news and solutions.

There's nothing to stop the press from doing that simultaneously... and for that matter, nothing to stop any of us from devoting time to real solutions simultaneously. The opportunities are there daily, regardless of whether Palin is, or is not, in the picture. Ignoring Palin is not suddenly going to elevate the standard of what is being reported or for that matter, how involved and productive readers are going to be. To suggest that Palin's presence prevents us from either reading or writing real news and finding solutions is overly simplistic as far as I'm concerned.

Sarah Palin needs to get over Sarah Palin.

Instantly forgettable analysis. Made no sense whatsoever. According to Blow, it's not Palins relentless self-promotion, it's not an enthused tea-party, it's not the partisan games played by the Republicans that have led to her popularity, and it's not the fear-mongering either, or the blatant lies and racism from the repugnicans ... It's the Huff Post ... And anyone who criticizes her.
What complete and utter nonsense.

Charles, I've always liked you, but you just became my hero. I've made the same comment here before-she is not news, so why do "news sources" keep talking about her? Well done, Chuck, well done!!!
