Don't drink a lot of booze this holiday, drink juices.

Because who better to dole out advice on how to deal with the stresses of life than Sylvia Plath ...

Take your time, don't live too fast.
Troubles will come and they will pass.

Another easy way to avoid Christmas stress is to just stay Jewish. Of course, that won't help in September.

How about the oldie but goodie:
"The optimist sees the glass as half full.
The pessimist sees the glass as half empty.
Then engineer see the glass as twice as big as it needs to be."

"I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass." -- Walt Whitman

You may have to imagine the spear of summer grass in December, but that can work even better.

I'm not sure it was such a great idea to make the first quote one from Sylvia Plath, who committed suicide.

I thought the same thing! I think they're all crap anyway! Just try to stop being all things to everybody and you automatically de-stress!

Most of the people quoted here were unhappy most of their life. None of these lines are that good for relieving stress.

I read and reread Emerson's essay "Self-Reliance". It's much better than most self-help books and much better than any of these quotes.

Also, the wisdom books of the Bible -- Job, Ecclesiastes, Proverbs -- and Pirke Avot (Ethics of the Fathers) are much better than these lines.

Reading Proverbs and Self-Reliance assures you that, even if you don't feel that much better afterward, you'll be well prepared to give a toast at a bar or party and you'll have a higher authority to appeal to when dealing with sales objections..

De-stress statement for the Holidays:

"I got a job"

Unfortunately too many among us will not be able to say that.

Sorry, I can't get past the first one with Sylvia Plath.

There is nothing that sticking your head in the oven won't cure, right Sylvia?!

Exactly! Waxing poetic is one thing... implementing & living it is quite another...

This was begging to be said. I'm glad you said it so no one else had to. Aren't there 12 quotes, not 11?

I read the comments on here, and I think too much is being made of Sylvia Plath. Just because she committed suicide doesn't mean that she didn't have some really nice moments in her hot bath. Maybe more of them would have helped...
Also, just because people commit suicide doesn't mean that they don't have any wisdom for us.
