WikiLeaks Week In Review: Cablegate Highlights (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 12/05/10 01:12 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:15 PM ET

It was, without question, the story the defined the first week of December 2010: last Sunday, online whistleblower WikiLeaks began an unprecedented release of 250,000 secret State Department documents, including cables related to Iran and its nuclear program.

Included among the various documents were unflattering and often churlish assessments of some world leaders -- many of them U.S. allies -- leading Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to embark on what has been deemed a "damage-control" tour through central Asia. Though many of the diplomats named either shrugged off the criticisms or expressed sympathy with the Obama administration, the results of the damage to U.S. foreign relations cannot yet be fully assessed. In addition, further documents are expected to be released in the coming weeks and months that could prove even more detrimental.

Take a look back at some key moments in the Cablegate scandal here:

Cables Highlight Arab Contempt For Iran
1 of 11
The WikiLeaks disclosures showed private concerns about Iran expressed by a range of Arab leaders. One message said Bahrain's King Hamad "argued forcefully for taking action to terminate their (Iran's) nuclear program, by whatever means necessary. That program must be stopped. The danger of letting it go on is greater than the danger of stopping it."

Truly, I sense that state department is being run by a 10 year old.

All these American moles, in the British Parliament, the German government, in other governments, in the Venezuelan military, in other militaries, and undoubtedly elsewhere...

And WikiLeaks breaking all their condoms...I mean their covers...

And with Sweden taking that sort of thing seriously.

You can't really blame America for being upset.

LOL
So none of major scandals in the leaks are listed here?

They come close to one when they talk about Clinton and how she would not resign, but they don't even say what she would have been resigning for

This is the limit.
I call for boycotting HP if they keep insisting on posting inane garbage about Palin. HP only enables her by giving her attention.
Palin is not news, please do not include a line about her bloody twitter feed in an article about world news. Honestly. You should know better.

Might advertisers be getting in the way?

Palin is controversial. Controversy sells.

Even though Hooofpoo has an agenda, which is sometimes hard to define, it is not a pubic service; it is commercial.

I anticipate Palin will be featured on here at least until 2012.

he more outrage I see about the wiki-leaks the more certain I become that they were and are needed important documents...important in being able to show how shallow the government actually is.I am certain America is not the only government in the world filled with superficial people but the documents help shed light on the extent of the rot that exists. Those most outraged are the enablers of more of the same from the government.

So Obama, through the CIA, Sweden and lnterpoI, is getting JuIian Assange arrested because he didn't use a condom with photographer Sofia Wilén, 26, and he broke the condom with Anna Ardin, 31, party worker for the "Christian Brotherhood".

WHAT? ...again H* goes the "people magazine" route. Why don't you list REAL meaningful leaks instead of leader gossip.

Why is there a photo of Sarah Palin and her facebook comments? How can any serious journalist report her tweets and fb comments.

Wait! I just heard she ran out of toilet paper. ;-P
