Emmanuel Reyes, Ex-World Trade Center Tourism Worker, Gets Six Months Jail Sentence For Theft

NEW YORK — A former World Trade Center visitor center worker has been sentenced to six months in jail after admitting he stole about $12,000 from the nonprofit organization.

Emmanuel Reyes declined to speak at his sentencing Monday in Manhattan. His lawyer later said Reyes was a loving father with a history of learning disabilities.

Reyes was an assistant manager at the Tribute WTC Visitor Center. Prosecutors say he stole from the cash register and doctored receipts to cover his tracks.

The 26-year-old initially told investigators he stole to repay money he had borrowed to finance his mother's funeral.

He pleaded guilty in September to grand larceny.
