Elizabeth Edwards' Family Asks For Donations To Son's Foundation

Elizabeth Edwards Charity

Losing her long-term battle with cancer, Elizabeth Edwards died Tuesday.

In a statement, the Edwards family asked that her memory be honored with charity donations, instead of flowers.

Though many would expect donations be requested for breast cancer charity, the Edwards family is instead asking for the public to support the foundation created in honor of Edwards' son.

On behalf of Elizabeth we want to express our gratitude to the thousands of kindred spirits who moved and inspired her along the way. Your support and prayers touched our entire family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wade Edwards Foundation which benefits the Wade Edwards Learning Lab at www.wade.org.

The foundation was started in 1996 to honor Wade, the Edwards' 16-year-old son who was killed in a car crash.

Funds given to the foundation support the Wade Edwards Learning Lab Raleigh, N.C. The lab produces resources to teens, including free after-school computer access.

Donations
can be made to the Wade Edwards Foundation can be made online, through a PayPal account, or checks can be mailed to 714 St. Mary's St. Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

Classy, even in death.
We'll miss you Mrs. Edwards.

Rest in peace, good and gentle spirit. May your family find comfort and remember you in joy and laughter.

Sad to hear the news. Although I never considered myself a fan of either Elizabeth or John Edwards, I was struck by her total devotion to her family. It is sad that John was not worthy of her sacrifices.

I hate this. Even though I believe she is at a peace we cannot understand, it still makes me sad. I feel like she had such a hard road to hold these last 5 years. My heart also goes out of course to her family, yes, even John. I hope they find some form of comfort in all the positive support.

Regarding "hard road to hold." This should read "hard row to hoe" as in gardening, farming, etc.

I feel so bad about Elizabeth's passing and especially for her children. As I was thinking about Elizabeth having breast cancer I wondered as she underwent fertility treatments at age 50 which probably meant taking estrogen if that was what started the breast cancer? I have friends who did the HRT thing which involved synthetic estrogen that later developed breast cancer. Just a thought.

I think we should all stop making ill comments about her husband and hope he is able to take on Elizabeth's role in taking care of their young children. He is all they have and I am sure he loves them.

AGREED! This should have ZERO to do with anything but the truth/sadness of a family losing someone....someone who mattered. And that truth has nothing to do with politics.

Period, The End.

While privacy should be respected here, I hope Elizabeth and John Edwards were able to come to some kind of peace together, if not for themselves, for the sake of their children.

That's one lady that deserved a much better husband than the one for which she settled.
