Johnny Depp Says He Doesn't Have A Phone

Trying to hit Johnny Depp on his phone? Stop dialing - the star doesn't even have one.

Depp spoke to Access Hollywood at the premiere of his new film, 'The Tourist,' on Monday, and told the site he's got no love for the buzzer.

"I just don't like phones," he said, "I just don't like them... being reachable all the time."

So how does he know which high profile part he just nabbed? "We have Internet and stuff like that because I think that's the safest form, well, most interesting form of communication," Depp noted, though the eccentric star didn't specify what sorts of interesting communication he's been involved in.

Depp's digital reliance is the total opposite of Winona Ryder's - the 'Black Swan' actress recently told USA Today that she doesn't bother with the internet.

Good on him - I can't stand them either. Another thing that I find annoying is seeing two people who are meant to be 'together' but both are on their phones yapping to other people. For many people, the cell phone is simply an adult toy - for me it's a pest that prevents one from ever being able to escape being connected. And before you all say "well don't have one" - I run a business and I'm forced to carry one - to my dismay!

I like Johnny Depp, when he could have rested on his looks,making money for just being down right fine! He chose instead the road of pursuing acting roles and has become a very good actor and a bankable one at that! So all you haters get over your nonsense, if he doesn't like phones SO WHAT!

I hate phones and gadgets too.

Phones are overrated, you don't need to be connected all the time - it's terribly annoying.
You can handle that stuff when you're home or in the office on the computer.

I have a cell phone which I use strictly when I am driving alone. Otherwise, I never, ever use it. I pay $17/month for the phone and it is worth that for my peace of mind and safety. My home phone, a land line, is tied to a bundled cable/internet/phone deal from a provider. Most of the calls I get on that phone are robocalls or wrong numbers. You do not need a telephone for much these days and I am loathe to understand how people have to be connected to one at every moment of every waking hour. It is beyond me! Whatever happened to personal interaction? Go visit!

I love Johnny Depp but...on Charlie Rose last night the director of "The Last Tourist" he said that a person connected to the project was a friend of Depp's and "called him on the phone" when they wanted to ask him to do the film. He has kids and he adores them so, sure he has a cell phone to stay connected to his family but it's probably under an assumed name so that no one can get the number. He just wants to stay out of the limelight and I don't blame him for wanting privacy.

Look at those who use their cell phones (Ashton Kurcher, Demi,etc.) because they are So narcissistic and desperate to BE in the limelight and it's ugly.

I wouldn't own a phone either if I could afford to pay a squad of assistants and flunkies to answer the phone and look after the details for me. He's got the right idea--an artist's life should be as clutter-free as possible. I envy his freedom.

he is as they come; what does he do if he has an emergency.
he is so overrated as an actor, can't even understand him when he talks, have to struggle to listen to the words that come out of his mouth as well as in interviews.
and cut your hair and throw those silly hats away, always wonder what was under those hats besides hair that badly needs to be cut and washed.

I have to think he is talking about a land-line, even though the article specifically refers to accessibility, and then one might presume he is talking about a cell phone. With that said, he has a cell phone. As a person who knows the animal trainers who worked on Pirates, and how they would stay in touch with Johnny, especially as it had to do with the Capuchin Monkey, he is just trying to make himself seem more eccentric.
