Denver Film Society Screening Acclaimed Marwencol Documentary

The Denver Film Society will be screening the acclaimed documentary Marwencol from December 10-16 at the new Denver Film Center on Colfax.

Marwencol tells the story of Mark Hogancamp, an Upstate New York man who was beaten so badly outside a bar in 2000 that he spent 9 days in a coma and wound up with significant memory loss and brain damage.

Unable to afford therapy, Hogancamp found refuge in an a town called Marwencol, a remarkably elaborate miniature European city he constructed in his backyard. The documentary details his efforts to cope with his tragedy through his adventures in Marwencol, and his struggles to balance life in Marwencol with the "real world."

The film, which was directed by Jeff Malmberg, won the Grand Jury Awards at the South by Southwest Film Festival, the Cleveland Film Festival, and the Seattle Film Festival.
