On Wednesday, news circulated about the damage done to Clelia II while it battered 30 foot waves in Argentina's Drake Passage.

On Friday, the cruise ship carrying 88 Americans docked safely in Argentina, to the delight of the passengers. The boat was forced to turn into the storm in order to protect everyone on board, passenger Ron Swithers told CBS News.

Another passenger, Linda Mates, joked: "I got my money's worth!"

Glad that everyone is well.

People forget that the sea can be unpredictable and unforgiving. When my prairie-born and -bred sister went on a cruise a couple of years ago, they had to have lifeboat drills. She commented to one of the crew that she couldn't believe a ship so big was in any danger just going around a coastline, but he pointed out that all the modern improvements still couldn't eliminate all the hazards -- and getting over a thousand people into lifeboats in an emergency was something that had to be planned to a T.
