Student Protesters Made Physical 'Contact' With Prince Charles, Camilla During Attack On Car, UK Says

Charles Camilla Attacked

LONDON — Student protesters made physical contact with the wife of Prince Charles during an attack on the couple's car that has sparked a review of royal security, a British government minister said Sunday.

Home Secretary Theresa May told Sky News that "there was contact made," although she would not confirm reports Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, had been poked with a stick through an open car window.

The prince's office also declined to comment, but stressed that the royal couple did not seek medical help after Thursday's altercation.

Officials are assessing royal security after the attack on Charles and Camilla, whose Rolls-Royce strayed into the path of protesters against tuition fee hikes.

They hit the car with sticks, fists and bottles and chanted "Off with their heads" before the vehicle pushed its way through the crowd and drove off.

One casualty of the review may be the classic Rolls-Royce Phantom VI the couple were using, a gift to Queen Elizabeth II on her Silver Jubilee in 1977. The 33-year-old limousine does not have bulletproof windows or other modern protection features.

May said that "one of the issues that may very well be looked at is the question of the appropriate transport that is used by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall."

Police have launched a "major criminal investigation" into the demonstrations, which saw protesters scuffle with riot police, smash windows and daub government buildings with graffiti.

The Metropolitan Police force has defended its handling of the protests, which saw scuffles erupt as thousands of students were corralled into an area near the Houses of Parliament.

Hundreds of other rampaged through central London, smashing store windows and trying to set a Christmas tree alight before they came upon the royal couple, who were en route to a theater for a variety performance.

On Sunday police released photos of 14 people they say are suspected of causing violent disorder or criminal damage. Police would not say if any was suspected of involvement in the attack on Charles and Camilla.

Peace loving, freedom loving Ma\yor of London Boris Johnson is still refusing to use water cannon, tear gas, rubber bullets, sidearms and stun grenades, all of which are used in France and Germany, against violent protesters, because he supports the right to demo.

He is asking the Met Police to deal with thugs with just their shield and batons, in the name of freedom. "I don't want the violence to ratchet up in an arms war. said the Mayor. Well done Boris.

There are very unkind remarks here about members of our Royal Family. Prince Charles is a most popular figure, as is his wife. They are down to earth, and held in huge affection in the UK.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, also said the right to protest was being hijacked and destroyed by violent protesters, who had a destructive politicial agenda,.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has said the right to demonstrate is a beautiful thing. He has said that water cannon will not be used against violent protesters.

Where are the comments about the invasion of the for-profit U.S.education companies into the U.k.? The Apollo Group (under investigation in Florida) and Kaplan stand to do very nicely, thank you, out of increased fees. There is an exstra depth to all this that few posters realise. Private |Eye covers it well.

No mention of the criminal investigations going on against those protesters for assault and vandalism. That'll be great for little Will's wedding, maybe add a public flogging?

When asked if she was truly frightened, Camilla boldly responded: "Neeeiiigh, neeeiiigh....and pawed at the ground!"

I was about to say that it's too bad she did not need extensive facial reconstruction after the incident.

The crowd was yelling, "Off with their heads!" but those two lost their heads long, long ago. I surely wouldn't touch either one of them, myself. They are two totally self-absorbed, uglier than homemade sin, swine who did not care whose lives they ruined.

Class disparity and abusive working conditions in this country led to the formation of the National Labor Relations Act. It was that or hunt down and h.ang the rich, which loomed as a definite possibility. The NLR Act was a proactive measure to protect the rich from the population.
It appears that the tipping point is here again, but for slightly different reasons.

I strongly disapprove of physical aggression as a way to make a point.

Why were Charles and Camilla going to the theater when the country is in an austerity mode so severe that thousands of college students are seeing their futures go down the toilet?

Do you expect them io go to Mc Donalds in the roller?
This is all British royals do is attend functions giving out prizes and having a lovely time at tax payers expense.

Maybe, but another monarch said something about "let them eat cake" when referring to riots by the populace.

Time to climb out of the ivory tower.

There will always be the lower class of people trying to take down the upper classes. It is human nature. One that is born into the upper class that never peeks ones head into the lower class via life will never understand how truly lucky they are.
