Perrish Cox Could Face Life In Prison For Sexual Assault

Denver Broncos rookie cornerback Perrish Cox could be facing life in prison if convicted on sexual assault charges filed by prosecutors last week.

The Associated Press reports that documents unsealed on Tuesday indicate that the charges are Class 3 and Class 4 felonies, which carry a sentence of two years to life in prison.

The alleged sexual assaults occurred on October 28, the day the Broncos left for London to play the San Francisco 49ers. Cox stayed behind because he had suffered a concussion the previous week against the Oakland Raiders.

Cox is free on $50,000 bond. He played in Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals despite his arrest on Thursday night. The Broncos said that they would have preferred to have benched the 8-game starter, but injuries forced them to use him.

The AP reports that Cox could face a four-game suspension from the NFL next season for violating the league's personal conduct code, regardless of whether he's convicted.
