Reese Witherspoon & Michelle Williams: Who Wore Strapless Better? (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 12/14/2010 7:43 am   Updated: 05/25/2011 6:20 pm

Strapless cocktail dresses in winter: seems like an epically bad idea, but still looks so good. Both Michelle Williams and Reese Witherspoon dared to rock frocks sans straps on Monday night.

Michelle donned a short, tiered and ruffled Dior number to the Cinema Society & Piaget screening of "Blue Valentine" in N.Y.C. She paired it with purple pumps and threw on a black blazer later in the night.

And on the other coast, Reese Witherspoon went for fuchsia Zac Posen with what appears to be trompe d'oeil bows at the premiere of Columbia Pictures' "How Do You Know" in L.A.

Check out some different views of each lady's look -- scroll down for a side-by-side -- and tell us what you think.

Quick Poll

Who wore strapless in winter better?

Michelle Williams!

Reese Witherspoon!

Both look great!

I don't like either.

Michelle's dress was nice but it fit badly. And a little too frilly for an adult woman. Woulda been great on Elle Fanning!

Michelle's dress is too short for a strapless, too frilly for someone her age.

Reese is spot on.

Why is a person's weight such an awful and insensitive subject, but someone's chin is fair game?

I like Reese's dress and Michelle's shoes.

Seriously, Michelle needs to dress like a grownup. These little frilly mini dresses and too blonde pixie cuts don't suit her at all.

She should totally lose that dress. At my house, later tonight.

Michelle has such an amazing charm. She and Carey Mulligan have this way of appearing absolutely vulnerable and shameless at once. I think she's beautiful even when she's not--I've seen some dreadful photos of her but she was still so present and real in them, I just liked her more.

It's not just the chin that's harsh about Reese. She has a brassy edge to her that some American women get. I think she's lovely--and I envy her that magic that makes all her strapless dresses stay up, seriously--and she's a good actress, but she doesn't have that *thing* that Michelle has.

They're both gorgeous. I think I would like Michelle's dress more if it were just a little longer, knee length maybe. Those purple shoes are beautiful! I am thinking maybe some larger earrings would help, too. I love the color of Reese's dress and the length, both are very flattering on her. Beautiful dresses on beautiful ladies!

If I ever need to chisel a hole in my concrete driveway, I'm going to ask Reese Witherspoon if I can borrow that chin.

They'd both wear burlap sacks well. Which would be better looking than either of these dresses.

What is with all of these lame comments about Reese's chin? This isn't high school folks and if it was Reese would be the one having the last laugh. She has a pointy chin- get over it! She is also a great actress, making mad money, has two beautiful kids, a banging body and an Oscar. I think she - and her chin nave made out pretty well.

Reese looks horrible. Her hair looks greasy, and that chin. Wholey mackerel!

Well no one else seems to have issues with her chin considering how much she makes for her films, how successful her films are and the fact that she has an Oscar at home.
