Sorry, but, I don't see a hyena standing a chance against a pissed off mama big cat with her young around. Hyenas are dodgy as hell. They're not courageous. They're not good fighters. They're like the GOP, opportunists.

The cheetah has no weapons for a hyena. There claws are not that sharp because they do not retract. One leg bit and she and the cubs die, so it is not worth it for her to fight a hyena to the death.

In addition to what Wudd said, Hyenas are actually as good at fighting as a cheetah, in all likelihood - they both rely primarily on their mouths for damage.

On top of that, in packs Hyenas are as effective as wolves, just very very large, powerful wolves. They get a bad rap because they "look weird", but they're actually highly competent predators who scavenge when they can, like all other predators.

GOP: Don't worry Cheetah's by letting the Hyena have the cut the benefits will trickle down to you

Awww. I've always loved cheetahs. Exciting to watch them shoot after prey. It's a shame they get pushed around by the other predators though. The cubs are so cute!

Cheetahs are unique big cats. To listen to the chirp, purr, and whistle, here are some links. Enjoy!

From what I have watched, Cheetah's have a very tough life to survive.

Yes, and they don't easily reproduce. There's a place here in Texas called Fossil Rim Wildlife Convervancy that has cheetahs and they've been successful in getting them to reproduce. They're beautiful creatures. Love big cats.

Me too. I always watch the Geo Wild and BBC programs. The one where they followed the one Cheetah for several years was especially interesting. Fanned

LIke a true Republican, the Laughing Hyena steals in with brute force to steal the familes meal leaving them to fend for themselves penniless on the serengeti planes.

Hyena get a bad rap but in African cities and towns they do better job of cleaning dead animals and edible wastes than the waste management.

What! You have Hyenas in African cities and towns? What a racist comment.

I am not sure why you made this comment.

There are also leopards, baboons, marabou storks, and vultures in some African cities. It is Africa.

Like Mewell said, hyenas are cleaners and occupy a specific ecological niche.

That FRANTIC look on the cheetah mother's face when she's trying to see her cubs -
Boy, what mother on planet earth hasn't had that same look on her face at some time or another!

I had a mini-version of this happen in my back yard one summer. There are two wild cats that live in my back yard and hide under my shed. They had two kittens one year and late one night I heard some serious hissing going on outside so I turned on the lights and there was a small raccoon that had walked into the yard and had accidentally cornered the mother cat and her kittens and then the male cat had come in to help... they were all there hissing at each other and the raccoon was trying to back away but he was cornered by the male cat... then the cats attacked the raccoon and fur started flying... the raccoon could easily kill a cat, but decided to haul out of there wanting nothing to do with the cats. The raccoons usually come in the yard to eat the pears that have fallen off the tree onto the ground.
