Broadway is about to get some top flight Hollywood treatment. 'Rock of Ages,' the hit 80's hair metal-inspired Broadway musical, is set to be a big screen epic, and it's already rocked the world with its big casting offers.
Rumored for a 2011 production, producers for the film have reached out to three major stars to fill crucial supporting roles, The Wrap reports: Tom Cruise, as burnt out rock star Stacee Jaxx; Alec Baldwin as Dennis, another former star, now grasping onto the stage at an LA bar; and Gwyneth Paltrow (via EW), in a big, but as of yet, unidentified role.
The film, which utilizes classic tracks from 80s hair bands such as Bon Jovi and Poison, is about two young aspiring rockers adventuring to LA to reach their dreams -- only to find out that, perhaps, LA is no longer a city for dreamers.
Baldwin, who was nominated for yet another Golden Globe for his role as Jack Donaghy on '30 Rock' on Tuesday, is no stranger to Broadway; he's appeared on stage at various points since 1986.
He made his debut in 1986's revival of 'Loot,' and later earned a Tony nomination for his role in 'A Streetcar Named Desire.' Those were stage plays, but he's sang Broadway numbers, as well, taking a starring turn in a concert version of Rogers & Hammerstein's 'South Pacific.'
Paltrow has revealed her musical side of late, too. The actress stars in the upcoming country music drama 'Country Song,' training her voice and recently earning a standing ovation at the CMA's. She also appeared in an episode of 'Glee,' a role which she is slated to reprise.
In addition to the three listed above, star singer Mary J. Blige has been rumored to be attached to the film as the owner of a strip bar central to the storyline.
