Stephen Colbert & Amy Sedaris Make Christmas Crafts (VIDEO)

First Posted: 12/17/10 11:32 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

On Thursday night's episode of "The Colbert Report," Stephen Colbert ended the year with a visit from his former co-star on "Strangers With Candy," Amy Sedaris. Sedaris, the actress and comedian whose new book "Simple Times: Crafts For Poor People" is on shelves now, demonstrated some crafting of her own with Stephen.

During the segment, Sedaris proved that not only is she a delightful presence in films and TV but a creative craft maker as well, creating makeshift Christmas presents out of household items with Stephen, and adding playful banter that hearkened back to their years spent improvising together. Watching two people make Christmas presents out of an old tie and dryer lint has never been more entertaining.

Her book marks the second time a Sedaris has written a holiday staple -- her equally talented brother David wrote the hilarious classic "The Santaland Diaries."

There was talk a year or so ago of Amy getting her own show where she would share tips on 'entertaining' at home. Guess that's not going to happen. Too bad.

No woman is funnier than her. Some of those who call themselves comedians should be ashamed. She's the best.

Amy is hifreakinlarious. Her brother, David, is too. I nearly couldn't get through his book "Me Talk Pretty One Day" because I was laughing so hard.

No, you got it. It just didn't warrant the response it got.

Rush (the band, not the dipSh!t) played on Colbert recently.

The woman is hilarious!

Utterly nonchalantly she says ''poor people steal'' on a popular show without so much as battering an eyelid.

Maybe I should try this book, I spend a lot of money buying gifts which probably turn out to be not great.

You should first try her first book, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence. They're both hilarious visual books but the former was definitely a cut above the other.

Wow, these two bounce off each other effortlessly. Haven't seen two such capable ad libbers in a heckuva long time.

Watching Sedaris play the 'celebrity' game is like watching someone climb Everest without an oxygen tank. You can't imagine how they reached that height or why they're not dead yet but you've got to admire their dogged tenacity.

She's so cool...imagine what it would be like to be invited to her apartment. I'd bring the spliff for her crab claw roach clip, and 3 kinds of hay.

I really think if Sharron Angle had been elected, Amy could've dusted off the Jerri Blank, modified it only *slightly*, and she'd have a 1st class impression.
