Brian Williams Slow Jams The News With Jimmy Fallon & The Roots (VIDEO)

First Posted: 12/17/10 11:01 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

On Wednesday night's "Late Night," Jimmy Fallon brought back one of our favorite segments, "Slow Jam The News," where he and The Roots take the serious topics of the day and pair them with a smooth beat. This time, they were joined by comedy-loving newsman Brian Williams as they turned Congress's tax cut deal into an R&B song. If the whole NBC "Nightly News" thing doesn't work out, we're pretty sure Williams can have a second career in either comedy or slow-jamming. Watch he and Fallon groove to today's headlines below.

This kind of thing should be on the network news at 6:30 p.m. every weeknight

Whenever HuffPo or any other site features Jimmy, it's always when he's accompanied by someone else. He's never funny when it's just him! And... it's always The Roots helping him and whoever he's with! They're the talent! Representing my hometown with pride! Go Roots!!

Really, could have sworn his acclaimed version of Pants on the Ground was him and him alone.

Then you ought to watch the show. The Roots are the best house band in the history of late night TV, but Jimmy hold his own. This particular slow-jam wasn't as good as it usually is. Fallon has some great guests and sets up funny contests for them. Love me some Jimmy and The Roots!!

Hey BriWi, while you were slow jamming the news last night, Jon Stewart did what is supposed to be your job for you.

WOW! Terrific. And in a way we get three different perspectives on the news at once, with some hiphop rhymes thrown in for good measure. I absolutely love it.

Brian's desire to be a comic and TV personality is just another example of our the news has lost its focus and gravitas.

Now that's a comment as well thought out and worthy of Palin herself. Speaking of "Focus", what does "of our the news" mean?

It should be "how our news". Thank you for bringing that to my attention and for your
peculiar non sequitur.

Trillian, read Patricia's post, you might learn something about tact.

"Watch he and Fallon groove to today's headlines below." ??? This has the worst editing of any news site.

that's why Brian remains relevant, and the top news anchor on network t.v.
he is up to date and in touch with current culture
and he doesn't take himself too seriously,
like most anchors.
....take the hint FOX!

I love it. Brian Williams has a great sense of humor and I was quite surprised at how adept he was in comedy when he hosted SNL. I fully expected him to be stiff and suck big time, but he was quite funny.

They've done a bunch of series, but so far haven't repeated any yet that I can think of. I also can't wait for the return of the housewives. My favorite is Owen the falldown drunk.

Jimmy said in an interview that the Housewives of Late Night are very difficult to do because of the time spent in make up and dressing the part. I wish they would bring them back ASAP.
