Floyd Mayweather Arrest Warrant

LAS VEGAS — Floyd Mayweather Jr. spent a night in a Las Vegas jail before his release Friday on a misdemeanor battery warrant stemming from an allegation that the boxer poked a security guard in the face last month outside his home.

The second arrest in three months for the undefeated prizefighter drew allegations from his lawyer that police and prosecutors overreacted to a minor criminal accusation and that the 33-year-old Mayweather was getting "unequal punitive exaggerated treatment."

"This is a misdemeanor," attorney Richard Wright told The Associated Press. He noted that police usually write a ticket for a misdemeanor, or issue a court summons at the jail.

Wright accused District Attorney David Roger of "going out of his way to treat (Mayweather) differently than anyone else."

Roger didn't immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

Mayweather was arrested just before midnight Thursday at the posh Bellagio resort on the Las Vegas Strip and booked early Friday into the Clark County jail without bail.

Police initially said the boxer might remain in jail pending a Monday court date. But defense attorney Karen Winckler intervened, and Mayweather was freed less than 12 hours after his arrest.

The misdemeanor charge stems from a confrontation Nov. 15 during which authorities allege Mayweather poked a 21-year-old security guard repeatedly in the left cheek during a loud verbal confrontation over parking tickets. Mayweather's attorneys have denied wrongdoing on his behalf.

The warrant was issued Dec. 8 by a Las Vegas justice of the peace, but he immediately recalled it. It was reinstated Dec. 13 after prosecutors complained that Mayweather was receiving preferential treatment.

The judge, Tony Abbatangelo, scheduled a Tuesday hearing to determine whether Mayweather should remain free pending trial. The misdemeanor case carries a possible six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Mayweather is one of the boxing's richest and most recognizable figures, with 25 knockouts in his 41 wins. He goes by the nickname "Money," and earned more than $20 million in May from a single fight in Las Vegas against "Sugar" Shane Mosley.

But he has also been dogged in recent years by allegations of violence and confrontations at home and at Las Vegas clubs.

Mayweather has misdemeanor battery and assault convictions in Las Vegas and his hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich., and is facing a felony coercion, grand larceny and robbery case stemming from a September dispute with his children and their mother at her home.

He faces trial Jan. 24 in that case, and could face up to 34 years in prison if convicted.

Floyd, you stupid, spoiled SOB, I should come to Vegas and give you a daddy beatdown, cause you are acting like spoiled baby, like Angelo Dundee told Sugar Ray Leonard, "Your blowing it son". You are the best, you can beat Manny. When Floyd was on "Dancing with the stars" he acted totally cool, it might be the company you keep or choose to keep, with a change of attitude you could be the most popular athlete on the planet.

why no coverage of hopkins vs pascal? although it was a "majority tie" from the judges, hopkins, 45 to pacal's 28 years old, won handily. IMHO. he hurt pascal with body shots and ended up chasing him around the ring the last 4 or 5 rounds. hopkins was knocked down twice, one time was questionable, but came back with superior tactics, boxing skills and heart. it's a great story and a questionable decision worth debating. instead of another arrest warrant for the gangsta mayweather.

I'm sorry you took my comment the way you did. I hopefully never denigrate anyone because of their race (religion, etc.) nor would I demean the struggle against all forms of discrimination.
I was just making sporting banter over what I perceive as Mayweather's dodging of a match with Manny Pacquiao. Peace.

I'm sure all the black people in America get a warm feeling in their guts to see the Floyd Mayweather family using their MILLIONS and influence to help the poor people in their third-world country get through the tough times of unemployment and poverty and homelessness. They're the gift that keeps on giving! Merry Christmas!!

Floyd continues to shoot himself in the foot and wreak more havoc on that pretty boy now come larger than life, bad boy image. Why doesn't he use his talent in the ring and beyond, do more good for humans outside of it?

Floyd, Floyd/he's all null and void/got dissed at the Bellagio/now he don't know where to go.

It's a shame we won't see him fight Pacquiao, but he's got bigger problems than boxing right now.

Although I would normally see this as another spoiled athlete whining, I do think Floyd is getting a bit more attention from law enforcement than usual.

I would love to see it Mayweather vs Pac. None of us knows what will happen until they face off against one another. It will be huge but the deal needs to be done within the next year. Looks like Mayweather life is spiraling out of control. He needs to get it together quick.

To the court of public opinion! For the record I detest "any" type of violence against all women except when it becomes life threatening!! So Floyds life was not being threatened and as far as beating her up that's not what happened, I don't condone what he did but he "slapped" her after she bragged about sleeping with another man. That was an emotional response! And I still don't condone it. But you guys are adding moss to a rolling stone and making matters worse then what they really are. Everyone with the capacity to think and speak starts to assert their misinformed oppinions passing judgment. Now if your really concerned about the treatment of women put your money where your mouth is or just shut the flock up!!!

You know he keeps a private jet. Maybe he should fly it somewhere quiet and re-think how he lives his life. Anyone who hits a woman is a coward. Period.
