The look does not make any sense, especially functionally.

I saw a video (maybe read about it - can't remember) awhile ago and it had two guys who robbed a store being chased and they kept falling down (repeatedly) because they wore the saggy pants look, one finally had the smarts enough to take his pants off to get away - the other, not so lucky.

Hey, they looked "good" robbing the store!

ROFL.

If guys are wearing pants that fall below their derriere in this decade, I can only dream that by the next decade, they wont be wearing anything. Us girls get to see the package before we invest. Love it.

When you see young men of other races trying to rock that sick look, then really know how influential ghetto un- fabulous-ness can reach.. Scary.

So, can we say that this young man is "strapped"?

Sagging is one of the weirdest fashion memes of all times. Who would believe that there would be a style of men's wear that would have men holding up their pants, and that the crotch of your pants would be down between your knees?

Some people will be "crystallized" in this fashion meme. Just like we see "old" hippies, or people still wearing mullets (Dog the Bounty Hunter), years after the fashion has moved on.

mmm well if your notion of the origins of sagging has any sexual connotations then I think you are mired in an urban myth.

Isn't that a garter belt?

The sagging pants look makes a statement, certainly:

It says: "I will slavishly conform to the most ridiculous fashion in an effort to look cool in the eyes of my peers, who will also slavishly conform."

This style originated in the American Prisons and it indicates that you are "taken", that you have a lover.

Now the neat thing to do is to go up to these guys and nudge them on their arm and ask with a wink, "How is he? Is he gooood?

Wow...Never knew that...hate the look anyway...Fan #1!
11:16 AM on 12/20/2010
Not sure where you heard that one but I understand the style to, yes, have originated in the prisons but has more to do with the fact they take your belt, not your butt, away.
05:48 PM on 12/20/2010
Until recently you only heard that it had to do with prison officials taking your belt. (For a while when this fad first started some kids were also wearing their shoes without laces--another prison "style".) I'm a little suspicious of the "taken" spin on this fad. Of course, maybe someone whose actually been to prison can confirm that it's true.

Despite the editing of comments that come closer to the real truth of why it is done on urban streets, it is indeed a version of being on the down low and a code to other men interested in that kind of 'off road vehicle driving'...The HP moderators think they are the best to judge what is OK and what is not as long as the subject responses don't personally make them feel uncomfortable. It's called censorship and it is done far too often on the HP.

The object of the HP is to foster communication between people and in a lot of cases impart some real knowledge on certain subjects. Those of us from urban communities that may have actual first hand knowledge behind certain urban underground lifestyles that make it into the greater public's eye are often censored and withheld for no real good reason other than it makes some of them uncomfortable or it gets too real for them.

Well this particular subject is very real and may enlighten someone in a position to help steer a young mind away from dressing in this fashion because it could be dangerous for the ignorant that have no clue of what they are actually advertising to the outside world by dressing in this way. It's not cool and not hip for young men to be inadvertently sending out the wrong message by dressing this way.

When I see males wearing this "look" I just was to say "Pull UP YOUR PANTS!!!". Goooooood LORRRRRD!!!! How is this attractive? On WHAT PLANET does this look cool or hot or anything less than having a full load on board?

It is just stupid. A STUPID look and besides it hides the backside and I can't get a good look at it ;-)

STOP THE DROOPY LOAD FILLED PANT LOOK!!!!!

It also makes their legs look short and stumpy.
11:16 AM on 12/20/2010
As someone with short, stumpy legs, I can assure you it is not a look to aspire to.

"STOP THE DROOPY LOAD FILLED PANT LOOK!!!!!"

LMAO! Yes, please, stop. Prison fashion has gone couture. Say what you want but the 80's fashion was much better. :-)

Nothing is more ridiculous than the fact that Jeanne Moos actually has a job. She has got to have the most vapid clip reel of any journalist in the history of the world. I suspect if anyone was ever forced to watch her complete clip reel, their eyes would never roll back into a forward position.

The saggy pants fashion is pretty ridiculous. It's unfortunate that those who wear it, further marginalize themselves.

That's not the "sagging" that's hot, it's the fact that you can look past it and see the hot guy.

I'm in my early-mid twenties (LOL) and in my opinion, a guy my age should not be sagging...I won't even consider a man w/ the 'thug' look...

How old is too old for saggy or skinny jeans, guys?

Hey guys who wear saggy pants. Ever wondered why the girl you liked rejected you?

Cause you are saggy pants guy!
06:01 PM on 12/20/2010
I don't think these guys are getting rejected very often, but if so, you'd think the girls would tell them.

It's hard for me to believe that the guys would keep doing it if girls were rejecting it. Don't know, just saying.

Totally see you point. But I would totally reject saggy pants guy but don't know if I would tell him point blank. You know? If I was the mom/sister of saggy pants guy though, I would pull it down and have him walk home like my colleague did :) I know, it's EVIL right? But it would get the message through.
