Yahoo is looking to sell the popular bookmarking service, Delicious.

Despite reports that the popular internet bookmarking site Delicious was being shuttered by Yahoo, it seems that the site will stay online in one form or another.

The company is currently looking for a way to financially separate itself from Yahoo, rather than close for good, reported CNET News. It's not clear as to whether or not the look to move away from Yahoo was spurred by the threat of shutting down, or if Yahoo had planned to sell it for some time.

From the Delicious Blog:

We're actively thinking about the future of Delicious and we believe there is a home outside the company that would make more sense for the service and our users. We're in the process of exploring a variety of options and talking to companies right now. And we'll share our plans with you as soon as we can.

News of Delicious' shutdown came as part of a list of services Yahoo planned to shut down, which was leaked by a Yahoo employee. The news also came after the recently troubled company announced nearly 700 layoffs right before the holidays.

I wonder if Yahoo would give the 635GB approximate sizeof the Geocity communities to me.

As for delicious I suggest they develop a brilliant sales pitch and ad campaign and a few dozen phone apps for Windows Phone 7. Just visited their mobile site and its not bad, they need to develop a few more mobile apps, offer to do a segment of the marketing for Windows Phone 7 based on those apps and they  should be in a  much better position then.

delicious - ad campaign showing sexy woman (Rosario Dawson Sin City style) with sexy lips licking chocolate off her lips while using her Windows Phone 7 recipe app for chocolate cake based on headline bookmarks from delicious.

Can have a little tag line - delicious on Windows phones, always what you want, when you need it.

This story should be in the oh-so-unnecessary "Divorce" section.

To me, it's existence smacks of the liberal stereotype of celebrating failure instead of success or working toward success.

Delicious is priceless. I feel really sorry for this happening, but future are services like ReaditLater or Instapaper. My contribution to matter is in term of Delicious to Instapaper importer:
