Top Earners

It was a dream year for Leonardo DiCaprio -- on screen and off.

On the strength of his summer blockbuster 'Inception,' DiCaprio's films earned $1.1 billion to lead all actors, Forbes reports. Good for him -- he struck a deal based on the film's top-dollar earnings, netting him $50 million before DVD sales are factored in.

Second place was a tie between 'Alice in Wonderland' co-stars Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp; Wasikowska also starred as compelling daughter in 'The Kids Are All Right,' while Depp took a leading role in 'The Tourist.' They each had films that brought in $1.03 billion, as each of their second films made $29 million.

In fourth, Robert Downey, Jr. His pair, 'Iron Man 2' and 'Due Date,' took in $808 million, not a modest sum.

Dollar for dollar, two films made the best profit ever...Easy Rider and Deep throat...both entertaining and ground breaking in their own rights.

I first saw Mia Wasikowska in 'Defiance' and have been entranced by her ever since.

Shouldn't there be a picture or consideration of Woody from Toy Story 3?

This has been a boring year as far as good movies go. I've only been to 3 movies this year, my lowest count ever and there's nothing that interests me or the kids this Christmas. I couldn't even convince them to see Harry Potter.

I'm not sure where you've been but I think the movies have been great. Not the whole year but the last few months, starting with Inception over the summer, Harry Potter last month and the Oscar worthy movies that are coming out now. I've actually seen three in just the past two weeks; 127 Hours, Black Swan and The King's Speech. You have to look past most main stream stuff (not all but most of them) and see something a little different.

I'm a huge Indie moviegoer. Black Swan and 127 sounds good but it's not enticing enough to pull me into the theaters, I'd rather wait for the DVD. If I was just a main stream type of guy I would have enjoyed the movies this year but I'm not that guy. I think last year was one of the greatest years for movies since 1939. Saw a ton of movies last year but this year pales in comparison, even with the critically acclaimed ones.

I think he could be if he took more chances, but he is really safe with Coppola and mostly works with him. He should have replaced Heath Ledger in Tree of Life instead of Brad Pitt.

I think he has taken chances but when he was younger. I'm thinking of Gilbert Grape and Basketball Diaries, as well as Romeo and Juliet.

I think you mean Scorsese, not Coppola.

Is it me, or were a great deal of the films this year really bad? I just watched The American with George Clooney a few days ago and man, it's probably the worse film I've seen in a while.

Interesting side point...and understand I am not attacking you in any way....I loved The American. My point is more to "Taste...can't predict it"...and not everything is for everyone.

That being said, I generally agree with you that I have not enjoyed much this year.
