Scotland Divorce: Rate Falls To 30-Year Low

Divorce rates in Scotland have fallen to their lowest level in almost 30 years, new figures have revealed.

The statistics show that there were 10,173 divorces in 2009/10, 10% fewer than the previous year and the lowest level since 1981.

Given the large numbers who have kids but do not marry, these statistics tell only part of the story.

Feckless teenagers have three kids and five tattoos by the age of twenty (but fewer piercings than their English counterparts) are in and out of relationships in a very casual, but also very noisy and angry way using language from reality TV shows. It makes it real.

There is a scene in 'What's New Pussycat' where our hero is with an American hippy woman who tells him a profound truth about life. She says to him (as I recall) ''It all comes down to the housing problem.'' She got that right.
