The Saddest Christmas Card Ever (PHOTO)

First Posted: 12/22/10 06:11 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

Christmas cards can be a great way to show people you're thinking of them during the holidays, but it turns out they can also be extremely depressing. Take this card for example, spotted by Redditer KermitJagger. We can't imagine Christmas will be that merry if it's just you and Mr. Boots kicking it around the house. And yes, we love cats, but isn't Christmas about coming together with the people you love? Let's just hope they didn't sell out of this card. (Via The High Definite)

It would be really sad if the Christmas wishes were addressed to the cat, and you.

We have 2 cats that we've had since their birth, the neighbors cat thinks she lives with us, and recently we adopted a stray into our home.

the card is CUTE but it needs an *S* for Cats.

What is really sad is the writer's lack of awareness.
For a person who is very attached to their pet, receiving a card acknowledging their pet is likely to convey awareness of that fact and a personal level of compassion.
For some, a good holiday is about a houseful of family, kids and all the hustle and bustle.
For others, a good holiday is a nice peaceful day reading a good book with a great cat purring, being goofy and sharing the day with you.
I would guess that the majority of those would be sent from someone to their boy/girlfriend who has a close feline friend in their life. This does not by any stretch imply that they will be alone on Christmas.
The headline seems very narrowminded to me.

Cards, not so much....

My cat is more faithful to me than my significant other. It's not a sad card at all! I'd be honored that someone acknowledged my cat as "family". I'd love to have the card!

then way you use faithful in the same sentence as significant other, you are implying that you have sex with your cat.... not saying you do, but your sentence is quite creepy.

I'll thank the dude or dudette who sends me a card like that, because that's just sweet and thoughtful!

Having said that I don't really give import on CELEBRATING Christmas anymore...I can't help thinking of many creatures, animals especially, who have no awareness of "significances" we humans artificially put on this day or that day...every day is just another day to get through in the struggle to live, to survive, to not starve, to not be abused, to not die horrifically. Just tonight I was out on my porch after having spent time with my family (I was happy to see them and be with them, of course), and from a distance, in the snow-covered field, with the temps at 16 degrees, I saw again the stray black cat I've been seeing for the past few months. His fur pitifully matted, and he was struggling to get across the snowy ground. He was on his way to the bowl of cat food (cold and frozen) that I put out for him underneath my porch. *Sigh* Christmas eve, my belly is full, and I am warm, but here is a critter desperate and suffering. It's just not possible for me to feel all thankful and celebrating when I see suffering.

Huh...am I a grinch or what?? Didn't mean to be depressing. I still wish you all and all your loved ones, including pets, the good fortune of a good life.

Try taking that cat in....give it a warm home and warm food to eat. It is commendable that you provide it food, but even you know you could do more. If you know the food is cold and frozen under your porch and you know the cat returns each day...then surely you know that it will welcome your advances to bring it inside.

I have an old garage on my property...I have installed a furnace...electricity...lights...etc...I have opened it to the numerous dogs and cats I see wandering throughout the neighborhood seeking shelter and food. And, they all seem to get along. I have an agreement with my local vet....I bring the animals in and have them spayed or neutered and I pay only "cost"....he posts thier pictures and lets me know of any possible homes for these animals. In the mean time, they always know they have a warm, safe place to go...food and water...and companionship from the other animals.

My thanks and admiration for you -- a champion for the animals, especially the homeless and starving.
I do my best. I have taken into my home 5 stray cats over a period of 4 years. Started out with leaving food and water, and working to gain their trust. It takes a lot of time and perseverance. As for that stray black cat i wrote about...I've been feeding it for the past three months. It just doesn't seem to want to trust me yet...soon as I'm seen it runs away. I've a cat door (flip door) in my shed, but it won't go there because my other cats, and my dog, often play in there. I made a small A-frame shelter, nested with wool scraps (which I obtained from a historical re-enactment supplier) near the bushes. I do want to give it warm food, but like I said it runs away at the sight of me. I don't want to stress the poor cat, making it take flight...it'll be a cruel expenditure of essential energy for him. I leave good/premium dry food, and I meant to say that with the frigid temps lately I bet the kibbles are really cold (as opposed to frozen) by the time he comes around.
Every stray cat that learned to trust me I made sure to get fixed. They eventually got adopted by me... rather, they have adopted me! Thank God for little mercies.

As someone who lost a black cat this past summer, I hope that he wherever he might be, finds someone as good at heart as you.

Thanks, scooperss. I'm sorry that you lost your kittie...and yes, the hope of all who love their animals is that if the misfortune of them disappearing ever befalls us there will be someone else who'd find them, care for them, and love them. Still, I'll hold out with you for the hope that your cat finds its way back home to you.

Nothing wrong with the card but the comments made me cry. I miss my Bandit ambushing me from underneath the pile of wrapping paper and playing punching bag with the ornaments on the tree. He will always be with me on Christmas.

This is one of the best threads I've been in on HuffPo. One poster was right when they said "pet owners know the deal..." Yes we do! I appear to be in much good company. :)

This is NOT the saddest Christmas card in the world. I got one from my ex-husband that said "Merry Christmas, Bitch" on the outside and "Hope Your Legs Grow Together" on the inside.

Aww, Adorable. My dog is my baby, I don't want my own kids, maybe adoption someday, but I'm still in my early 20's so my dog is my baby.If someone got a card for me and my dog i wouldn't mind it. It's super cute. I do put her in an outfit and get her pics. taken with santa. I however, have not signed her name on a card or present, not even to other dogs (never even crossed my mind) I am lucky to have a family. None the less my dog is the world to me. :)
