Gwyneth Paltrow: 'It Was Strange' To Date Ben Affleck, Brad Pitt (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 12/23/10 10:28 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

Gwyneth Paltrow is in love with and happily married to "genius" Coldplay singer Chris Martin, but she admits that her previous Hollywood relationships weren't quite as blissful.

Paltrow told E! in a special that aired Wednesday night that her relationships with Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck were a bit surreal. "It was strange to be part of a public couple," she said (via Us Weekly). It was over half a decade of strangeness for her, then; she dated Pitt from 1994-1997, and the pair was briefly engaged; and she was on-and-off with Ben Affleck from 1997 to 2000.

Now married to Martin, whom she met in 2002, Paltrow has two children: daughter Apple, 6, and son Moses, 4. Moses' birth in 2006, she said, was a difficult time for her, as she suffered from post-partum depression.

"You don't want anybody to know that you're depressed or crying all the time," she said in the special. "There's this shame that we bring to it and it's incredibly debilitating and scary and you just don't feel like yourself."

Anyone reading my words find these people interesting.

If a half-decade between Brad Pitt and Ben Afflick isn't "blissful," then I have no idea what is! And I'm a guy!

Every morning I go to Huffington and this story remains on the side of my screen. It is not
even remotely interesting. Take it off.

As I was watching her newest film I I realized a. It's the most generic country song ever written turned into a movie and b. Why doesn't Hollywood just get actors and actresses with REAL southern accents instead of making people look ridiculous imitating a generalized version of a legitimate vernacular. If you ever go to the south (as I have on occasion) you might notice how there is no such thing as a "southern accent". Every state and area has a different dialect. Do Creoles sound like Appalachians? So much work goes into a Boston accent but what if actors just tried to sound "Northern"? Also why do country artists always sing with a southern accent? Willie Nelson, George Jones and Johnny Cash sound like they are from Manhattan compared to these country singers today.

Just moved from LA to the East Coast. In LA all this celebrity stuff seemed so important and impressive............in a small New Jersey town it seems so irrelevant.

I still want to move back to fantasy.

I wish these celebs would just get over themselves.

It would help if mainstream media - and by extension, the general public - would get over them first.

Brad could have had two of the sweetest starlets on the planet, and he chose a freakazoid. Go figure. Must be a bad-girl fetish.

Chris Coldplay Martin is not a genius. He is a ripoff artist. Check out the song "Out of the Blue" by Roxy Music and compare it to that hit of Coldplay's second album i think, for a good example of what i mean.

Wow. I truly hope some decent and conclusional research is being conducted for this terrible depression. Its got to be hormonal.

Flannel shirts have already made a comeback. It's pretty much all you'll find (long sleeve shirt wise) at Tilly's for instance.

Years ago, I found her dating Brad quite odd. She is a sweet girl and a good actress but in all frankness, she is so out of his physical league. But then Brad has made some really weird choices in his love life (scratching head) and I’m definitely not talking about Jennifer Aniston because she looks cuter and more vivacious than Gwyneth. Juliette Lewis, anybody? The bottom line is these ladies have only him to blame for their heartbreak because it was him who led them to believe that there was nothing wrong with being in a different league.

"being in a different league"? Who even talks like that?

His "physical league"? Looks are soo subjective, so for you to be tripping on what is and what is not attractive, it's all in your pretty (probably, so you are stuck on it as you inevitably are on yourself) superficial little head.

What kind of names are Apple and Moses? What is wrong with these people. God Bless
02:20 PM on 12/25/2010
I find it entertaining that you insult the name "Moses" but then your statement ends with "God Bless"... hmmmm can you say irony?
02:23 PM on 12/25/2010
I think both names are nice. They're not difficult to pronounce or spell, but both are fresh and not over-used.

All she said was that it was strange to be part of a public couple. FluffPo morphed that into "strange to date Ben Affleck, Brad Pitt", which is very far from atypical for this site.

I've never understood the 'allure' of Gwyneth Paltrow. I mean, I'm sure she's a decent person, but come on, she's been described as 'beautiful'. Really? I'm sorry, but the woman that cuts my hair at True Blue Salon is so much better looking. So why is she always referred to as one of 'Hollywood's most beautiful actresses.' No, not even close. And I don't think she's that particularly talented. But wait, her father was a successful producer and her mother is extremely talented. Hollywood door, open.
