Derek Roy Injury: Buffalo Sabres' Leading Scorer Out For The Season

Posted: Updated:

The Buffalo Sabres will be without top center Derek Roy the rest of the season, General Manager Darcy Regier announced today, after suffering an injury last night against Florida.

Roy went hard into the boards and will need surgery to repair a torn quad tendon, the Sabres announced, and he will miss 4 to 6 months.

One of the NHL's most prolific scorers, Roy had registered 35 points through 35 games this year, including ten goals.

CBS Sports notes it is a "huge loss for Buffalo" and it's not yet clear what the Sabres will do in response. Its second-line center Tim Connolly had already been out with a nose injury.

The Sabres also lost last night's game 4-3 and are falling behind in their hopes for a playoff spot, currently tied for 11th in the Eastern Conference.
