Christmas Trees From Around The World (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 12/25/10 01:29 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

There are few holiday traditions that are as time-tested -- yet as universally awe-inspiring -- as a Christmas tree. Whether natural or artificial, illuminated by multicolored or white lights, a beautifully-decorated Christmas tree has the power to illicit spirited "oohs" and "ahs" from even the most Ebenezer Scrooge-like of your friends or family members.

Like any yuletide custom, however, Christmas trees seem to be changing with the times. While Brussels befittingly features a tree in a simple Old World style, Abu Dhabi's headline-making Emirates Palace Hotel tannenbaum is decked out in an estimated $11 million worth of premium bling. South Korea's controversial border tree has an arguable socially-conscious aim, while Singapore opted to go the environmentally friendly route by illuminating its spectacular display with LED-based lights.

In honor of the holidays, the HuffPost World team has brought you 25 of the world's most spectacular Christmas trees.

There are many beautiful Christmas trees just around the U.S.

Here is my city's tree (Portland, OR, where a Muslim teenager was plotting to detonate a car bomb at the tree-lighting ceremony).

This is so unjust. HP wants to tell us that there are no impressive Christmas trees in any country in Africa?!! Pathetic!!

I like that giant one from Poland the best. The one from the Freedom Square in Tbilisi is cool, too. Great slideshow.

Ostentatious trees are a poor monument to the king who came in the form of a servant.

Better than spending it on weapons and killing, at least you can reuse the lights and ornaments. You can only use a hellfire missile once.

Christmas trees are pagan symbols of everlasting life during winter. They have nothing whatsoever to do with "the king who came in the form of a servant".
