First Posted: 12/26/10 04:24 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

In the third quarter of St. Louis' 25-17 victory over San Francisco on Sunday, 49ers quarterback Troy Smith threw an interception to Rams safety Oshiomogho Atogwe. After the play, Smith and head coach Mike Singletary started to scream at each other on the sideline. In the middle of the argument, San Francisco's Ted Ginn Jr. got in between the two and started to rub a towel in Smith's face. Smith continued to shout at Singletary and was later benched for Alex Smith. Scroll down to watch the video.

Mike i think is to emotional to be a head coach. good guy just think he's to high strung for it right now, maybe give it a couple years.

Wonder why Singletary's to-scale replica of the crucifix didn't come in handy this year...tuck that s in. To all ex-players who wear glasses or put a pencil in their ear (listen up Howie Long and Mike Tice) that doesn't make you look smart. It's like when a 16 year old kid grows janky facial hair to buy cigarettes. Bush league

Bottom Line. Bad Coach. Bad QB. Both acted like a$$es.

Big problem with the Niners: They only choose players named 'Smith' to play QB. Hello, there are a lot of other names out there.

Mike has lost control of this team. He's not a head coach. Go back to D Coord. or something Mike, you aren't fit to lead.

The NFL is a business! The players make millions because the game brings in billions. It's not 1950, so who cares "What Lombardi would do, etc..." When did Lombardi have a $50M playing for him? Football and sports in general has changed. NFL owners know their great players, especailly QB's, are worth more than a coach and they pay them accordingly.

Ever since Elway won the war with Dan Reeves, quarterbacks have gotten the idea that they take precedence over coaches. Don't be surprised if Jeff Fisher leaves the Titans any time now, possibly to go to the Cowboys, as a result of his ongoing conflict with Vince Young.

Hahaha! Singletary has to treat his QB like a baby. Reading his lips, it looked like he said "settle down" and "stop crying". These QB's still maintain the huge ego, even when they suck.

I doubt that. Smith is saying " What you are saying doesnt make sense. You want me to be perfect, I am not perfect. Then he just keeps saying im not perfect over and over again.

My father played for Buck Shaw in the 1950's and you can bet that if a player had acted like that to Buck it would have been his last game as a 49er.

Wait a minute here....

Why the knock on Troy Smith? QB's throw interceptions all the time especially inexperienced ones. What doesn't happen is their coaches don't get in their face, yell at or berate them on the sidelines atferward. Singletary was wrong and has been all season.

QB's throw interceptions yes... but they handle themselves better after receiving necessary criticism

Teaching a positive lesson is always great. Punking your player because you're about to lose your job is not.
