The Huffington Post     First Posted: 12/30/10 09:17 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

UPDATE: Happy New Year! Submissions are now closed. See the best resolutions from Twitter users below.

Do you make the same New Year's resolution every year? Are you planning to make the same one for 2011? And come next December, what are the chances you will have actually lost ten pounds, remodeled your house, or quit smoking?

This New Year's, make a resolution that will not only stick but will make a difference for you and the world. We've listed some great green resolutions that we at HuffPost Green are pledging this year, from remembering our reusable shopping bags to swearing off plastic water bottles. These are all simple and small changes that we can each make as individuals. Plus, we've broken each resolution down into easy, manageable steps with one clear goal so you won't get hung up on any overwhelmingly broad suggestion.

Most importantly, we want to hear from you! What New Year's resolution are you going to pledge for 2011? Do you have your own commitment to saving the environment? To contribute your idea, submit a slide below, or tweet us using the hashtag #NextYearIWill.

Three years ago I started working on a quilt for my friend Nancy. Her husband died of esophageal cancer and I promised to make a handmade, king sized quilt for her out of his shirts, ties and pants.

I hope to finish it by the time spring arrives.

OMG founders (Carter age 9.5 and his sister Olivia age 8) are organizing a Plastic Bag Ban in their community/state. They have teamed up with several agencies and have also stopped using plastic bags all together. They have met with their State Legislature and are planning meetings with local majors and city council members. Check out their post at: http://onemoregeneration.org/2010/11/29/got-plastic/

To sit up straight. No more hunching over the keyboard feverishly typing caustic messages to liberals on HuffPo. Now I will sit up straight while I am doing that.

The re-usuable grocery bags need to be sturdy enough to withstand regular washings. I have had many ripped apart after a single wash. A lot of people re-use those bags without washings. There can be some scary germs growing in the bottom of those bags.

From a Canadian - we have 10% of USA's population - so we probably account for an additional 10 billion plastic bags to the environment. Some of the retail outlets here charge 5 cents per bag - an excellent incentive to be eco conscious - it's sad, but many consumers base decisions on their pocketbook - but if the shoe fits.......

I resolve to take over the known universe and make sure EVERYONE has access to a frozen Coke and rum as they desire (provided they aren't driving).

Yeah. That's good stuff!

Can I just get a Guaro on the rocks? I'm watching my girlish figure, which is the only one I get to watch since my girlfriend gets all upset and stuff when I look at other girlish figures.

Happy New Year and Cheers!

To stop donating money to big environmental groups who waste money with administration, and to give that money directly to grass roots groups who really make a difference in areas but lack the funds to do more.

Just to add, my ecological foot print is already pretty small, I already do my part on a scale most simply can't fathom, but what I can't do, I try to help those financially, who can.

Illuminate the poor science that is used by both sides in the global warming debate.

("There is a consensus". "My Nobel prize winner is smarter than yours." "But the computers models say it is true." "It is all because the people funding the study want a certain answer." "If enough people say it is true, then it becomes a fact.")

I'm going to find a bulk soap store in order to fill the containers of cleaning products, personal care products that I already have in my home. I recycle, compost and hang clothes but I'm going to find more ways. I'm encouraging my son to go green in his construction business!

Hard to find time to pray but we walk 45 minutes every day, so we decided to pray the Rosary while we walk.
We started on January 1st 2010. We pray the Rosary for one of our five daughters every day of the week, we didn't miss a day.
We saw it was very good - and then we rest on the weekend.
You have no idea how it changed our lives, as a couple, as parents and grand parents, spiritually, and in all aspects of our lives.
We look forward to Mondays to start a new round with Rosary.
Next important decision for 2011: Keep praying the Rosary every day.

Each year I give up Easter for Lent. I think following suit and giving up resolutions for New Year's is a good idea.

I will personally arrest the niney leven cabal and haul them to a war crimes courtroom outside the US. In my dreams.
